    Job Description

The Role of The Student Director

The COA (Circle of Accountability) of our church is a 3-mile circle around where we meet on Sunday mornings in Goose Creek. Mirroring our church vision, the role of the Student Director is to give every participant in Creekside Students consistent encounters with Jesus. Do this with energy and excitement because of the work of the gospel in your own life. Also, because growth and multiplication are a part of the future vision of the church, it is the role of the Student Director to be growing a team, including other leaders, that are growing in their relationships with Jesus, as well as numerically.

    •       This position reports to the Lead Pastor.

    •       This position relates with all other staff as a united team and is expected to speak into other areas of the church as well as be open to other staff speaking into the Student ministry.

    •       You will participate in weekly staff meetings and annual evaluations.

    Primary Responsibilities and Tasks

    •     Build on the existing structure and ministry in place. Your primary objective will be to build an exciting environment of discipleship and fun.

    •       Lead students and their families to follow Jesus.

    •       Train students in how to Abide in Christ. (Scripture, prayer, accountability)

    •       Create a weekly Gathering for students.

    •       This Gathering should foster an environment of discipleship and worship.

    •       Invite, train, and empower volunteers to provide leadership within the student ministry.

    •       Communicate often with Student ministry leaders to build relationships and equip them to lead.

    •       Follow up with people that are interested in volunteering with student ministry.

    •       Be available to appropriately meet with students and families outside of the normal Creekside Gathering times.

    •       Assist in providing resources for parents and families as needed.

    •       Oversee the Student Ministry budget, and plan select special events as able.

    •       Plan a summer trip or special event.

    •       Create a Student Ministry identity within Creekside, including a name, theme, décor, and graphics.

    Candidate Profile

    •       You love Jesus and His Kingdom.

    •       You love the local church.

    •       You love people, both far from God and in the family.

    •       You love students and want to see them grow in Christ.

    •       You have a fun, dynamic personality.

    •       You have a strong work ethic, have a “get it done” mentality, and seek to go the extra mile.

    •       You seek the good of the entire church, not just the Student Ministry.

    •       You have an attitude of constant improvement.

    •       You are teachable.

    •       You love working with people and you’re not a lone ranger.

    •       You can manage projects as well as systems.

    •       You can build a team.

    •       You have great references.

    •       If you are married, you are a good spouse. If you have kids, you are a good parent.

Formal education is not required.  However, experience and the ability to self-teach are necessary.

    Three specific skills stand out:

    1.     A Connector. You know how to pull great people together to accomplish significant tasks. You recognize that a team is stronger than an individual and involve other people in the process. You are looking to connect volunteers to your team.

    2.     A Communicator. You are strong in written and verbal communication. You know how to make things better. You know how to make good decisions that will reflect in growing relationships.

    3.     Resilient. This is going to be a process that hopefully stretches your capacity. There will often be tough soil to plow. You will need to be resilient to deal with the challenges.

    Your Schedule
    •       Starting, this is a 20 – 25 hour a week position.

    •       You will work on Sundays, participating fully on our Sunday morning team, having some flexibility on Sunday afternoons and evenings based on the schedule of the church.

    •       You will participate in weekly staff debriefs

    •       You will hold a monthly one-on-one update meeting with your supervisor where you will provide the content for the discussion.

    •       You will stay in touch with your supervisor every week.

    •       You (and your spouse) will be expected to participate in the two normal environments of the church just like any other Partner of Creekside.  (Sunday mornings and Community Groups)

    Your Salary
The starting salary for this position is $20,000 – $30,000 annually, based on experience level.

    •       You will have control of the Student Ministry budget, which can include an expense account for materials and incidental ministry expenses.

    •       You can miss 2 Sundays during the year for vacation and 1 Sunday for sick/personal reasons.   Other Sundays for conferences, retreats, and mission trips are approved by your supervisor.

    •       “Black-out dates” are Easter Sunday and other corporate mission events.

    •       Annual evaluations will be completed with salary being part of the evaluation.

    This Position
This is a position with great growth potential in our church, to become full-time as necessary and resources are present and available.
