Christ The King, Albuquerque, NM has an opening for an Associate Rector. This is a full-time paid position. The ideal start date is early 2023.
What We Seek in an Associate Rector
We seek an Associate who loves Jesus, loves people, loves God’s word, and has a heart for service. The Associate’s character must be in accord with the biblical standards as expressed in 1 Timothy 3:1-13 and throughout the New Testament. The Associate must be a team player with a sense of humor. The Associate will serve for at least three years with an option to remain longer by mutual consent. The Associate will have completed a Master of Divinity degree or equivalent Master’s degree, be ordained or close to be ordained a deacon or priest in the ACNA. Several years of ordained experience in parish leadership is preferred.
Associate Rector Expectations
The Associate will be on staff with the expressed purpose of being equipped to assume a future leadership role as rector of a parish. Therefore, the Associate will be immersed in the life of Christ The King concentrating on the following areas:
Preaching and celebrating at Sunday worship services, leading Bible studies, assisting and presiding at weddings, funerals, and special services, pastoral visitations (hospital, homebound visits, etc.).
Being part of the leadership team; attending and assisting at Vestry meetings as directed by the Rector; creating a budget along with the Wardens, Treasurer and Vestry, working with staff & assisting and leading staff meetings; participating in the life of the Diocese of the Southwest by attending diocesan meetings and functions.
Meeting regularly with the Rector and clergy on staff; having a spiritual mentor.
In addition, the Associate will have two ministry responsibilities:
Missional Development in the Community
Developing relationships with local businesses, restaurants, coffee shops, etc., surrounding the church building to make greater connections with the community;
Ministry Development with Younger Families
Pastoring and mentoring young couples and young people. Christ The King has a number of younger families (i.e., 40 years and under), many with small children. The Associate will work on discipleship with them and develop ministry opportunities for this group. This could involve developing a regular time for fellowship and worship. It could also involve helping to develop youth ministry.
