Job Description Candidate Profile: Gospel Motivation – The candidate must have a personal relationship with Jesus and desire to live a gospel-centered life. An understanding of salvation by grace through faith alone and a life of prayer and obedience should be evident in this leader’s life. Love of people – Relationships should be at the center of your DNA. Having strong people skills and ability to connect and care for students, parents, volunteers, staff members, and families throughout the church family. We highly value this individual cultivating relationships in the city, with other churches, and partnering with other ministries. Leader of leaders – The candidate should see themselves as a multiplier and gifted in team building, training, equipping, and empowering leaders/students to follow and lead in the ministry as the main influencer. We desire to have someone that knows how to give away ministry, but also the ability to be present and engaged with a healthy balance of both as a player/coach. Student Ministry Ninja – Being a life-long learner, and continuing to understand this generation of students and families by educating yourself and others with current cultural trends and methods to minister to Gen Z, their parents, and beyond. Parent Partner – We believe family ministry is the umbrella strategy for student ministry. Our candidate should enjoy connecting with parents, and see the role of student ministry to come alongside families to resource, encourage, and inspire them to be the ones discipling their children in the home. With many broken families, there is an opportunity for us to come alongside and add value to each unique family dynamic. Team Player – Student Pastor should love working with a team, being part of a team, and employ a team-based approach to the ministry. They should see their role not only as Student Pastor and Family Ministry, but also as one of the pastors and desiring to do cross-over and collaborative ministry, so as to add value to the entire mission of the church together. Winsome communicator – We desire the candidate to be comfortable as a lead teacher/communicator that lives out what they teach, is comfortable teaching students, parents, adults, etc. Builder/Entrepreneur – The candidate would need to have confidence and experience in building on an existing model, but being part of steering the church and ministry into new days with a new mission and team positioned for growth.
Candidate Responsibilities: Develop the vision – The candidate will begin strategically developing a vision for the overall ministry health and effectiveness in discipling students, leaders, and their families. This should occur in partnership with Kids Ministry leadership as an overall family vision so that we have a shared strategy with milestones and markers central to our plan. Equip the team – Employ relationship building and leading a capable team of volunteers, coach and add to the current Student Ministry staff team of part-time and committed young adults and interns that are the current core to the weekly ministry. Multiply yourself. Execute the plan – Spend time understanding the current plan in place, with freedom to turn it upside down, shake it up, and determine what is the best strategy to both disciple and evangelize with appropriate and relevant environments, ministry offerings, and missions. Communicate the word – Out of the overflow of a candidate’s own personal walk, and in one’s ability to craft an effective gospel-centered message, the expectation is that the individual be the primary communicator and model/coach/teach others how to do the same. Guide the ministry – The candidate will be responsible for administering the areas they oversee including: budget, reviews, communications, strategic planning, and coaching the team. While the individual doesn’t need to do administrative work, they are responsible to make sure that the administration of the ministry is effective with the support of the team/assistant.
Candidate requirements: Education – A bachelor’s degree required; Masters Degree preferred with preference given to candidates with Bible/Ministry degrees and/or Leadership studies.
Experience – 3-5 years minimum experience in Church Ministry; Student Ministry experience working with Middle and High School aged students preferred.
What it’s like to live in Virginia Beach: People enjoy living in Virginia Beach because it has a small-town feel even though the city is almost 500,000 within the Hampton Roads area of almost 2 million people. First Landing state park is where Christianity landed here in the U.S. and boasts its infancy which inspires tying together the past with development for the gospel to go forth into reaching those without Christ in the future. There is a large military presence of almost 25% of the population, as well as a coastal, boating, tourist, and ocean-front mixed culture. The cost of living is lower than the NE, but higher than the Southern areas of the U.S. With great hospitals and school options, Virginia Beach is a multi-faceted community that provides a number of different sub-cultures for someone with a missional heart.
