First Baptist Church in Augusta, KS is looking for an Associate Pastor with a Youth emphasis who will introduce young people to Christ, disciple them in spiritual growth through God’s word, and train them in serving Christ. The position of Associate Pastor is responsible for providing leadership in planning and implementing a Christ-centered ministry by specifically developing disciples among middle, high school, and college age students. This position will assist the Senior Pastor, Deacons, and ministry leaders in fulfilling the mission of the church; other duties will be considered based on spiritual gifts of the individual.
The Associate Pastor position is a full-time position with an emphasis in youth ministry. Candidates must possess sound doctrine and agree with church’s articles of faith. A ministry related bachelor’s degree is necessary, a seminary degree is preferred. Must have a heart for youth and discipleship. Must plan mission trips, church camps, and other youth events. The candidate must be a skilled communicator with relational and administrative ability.
Ministry Focus: The Associate Pastor shall work with the Middle School, High School, and Young Adults (out of high school, but under age 25) in the church and community in order to bring them to Jesus Christ and a mature Christian lifestyle.
Relationships: The Associate Pastor shall be a full-time staff member of the church and shall serve under the direction of the senior pastor with advisement from the Discipleship Core Team and the Deacons. The Associate Pastor shall also be an ex-officio member of the departments and committees as assigned by the senior pastor.
Qualifications: The Associate Pastor must comply with the appropriate provisions of the church constitution. The Associate Pastor must be a strong, mature Christian individual, and have at least a Bachelor’s degree in a field that is conducive to working with youth, and preferably should also have either a seminary degree or some additional training in youth work, leadership development, and the Bible. The Associate Pastor should have the demonstrated ability to work with youth and to cooperate with the rest of the church’s people and programs. The Associate Pastor should have a specific call to youth ministry.
1. The Associate Pastor shall be responsible for directing all the youth activities involving the Middle School, High School, and Young Adults wherever the events take place.
2. The Associate Pastor shall be responsible for enlisting and training youth workers and sponsors.
3. The Associate Pastor, working with the Discipleship Core Team, is responsible for Sunday School activities including the choice of educational materials, the selection and training of volunteers to assist in teaching the material. The Associate Pastor shall also spend time in the classroom with the students and young adults.
4. The Associate Pastor shall be responsible for developing a strong outreach program designed to reach the youth of our community in order to bring them to Jesus Christ and the church for Christian growth.
5. The Associate Pastor shall attempt to provide a very strong youth program with its major emphasis grounded in the Word of God (the Bible). The Associate Pastor should be able to teach the youth how to study the Bible, to pray, to witness to others, and to be a strong Christian presence in the world.
6. The Associate Pastor shall work with the Senior Pastor, the Discipleship Core Team, and other groups within the church to organize and schedule mission trips, youth trips, youth camps, and other activities outside the church’s facilities.
7. It is expected that any special gifts which the Associate Pastor has – – e.g. Preaching, Music, Worship, Evangelism, etc – may be utilized in the ministry of the church under the direction of the Senior Pastor.
8. Although the guidelines governing the functions of the Associate Pastor are Determined at the time of hiring, the constitution of the church shall determine the parameters of ministry scope and the conditions terminating the relationship with the church.
9. Other duties as assigned, for the growth and use of the special gifts the Associate Pastor has.
Benefits
Work Week. There are no set work hours for this position with the exception of Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings. The Pastor is expected to work five days a week and take two days off each week.
2. Vacation. Paid Time Off (PTO) is awarded by years of ministry experience. PTO is to be scheduled through and approved by the Senior Pastor. PTO is taken in one day increments. PTO resets every year on January 1st. If PTO time is not used, it does not carry over into the next year. The church does not pay for unused Paid Time Off. PTO awarded by experience
• 1 to 5 years of ministry experience gets 10 days
• 5 to 10 years of ministry experience gets 15 days
• 10+ of ministry experience gets 20 days
3. Financial Consideration: The salary package is set in accordance to the ministry experience and job requirements.
