@ Covenant CRC Email Job Print JobJob Description
Covenant Christian Reformed Church is an established multigenerational congregation in Winnipeg, Manitoba. We have a vision for an engaged, vibrant community that fosters commitment, love and active service toward God among members of all ages. To help our congregation grow into this vision, we are seeking to add to our ministry team a full-time Pastor of Faith Formation, who will complement and partner with our existing full-time Lead Pastor, and a part-time worship assistant. This role will provide leadership, vision, coordination, and administration for programs and initiatives that support faith formation in participants of all ages.
Responsibilities
1. Cast a vision for discipleship of all ages within the congregation.
2. Lead council and staff in the development of strategies for assessing ministry effectiveness, prioritizing programs for additional support, identifying when program components should be adjusted, and recognizing opportunities for spiritual growth within the congregation.
3. Facilitate the celebration of key moments in the faith journey of congregants, such as (illustrative examples only) making public Profession of Faith, completion of Sunday School, catechism and other programs, new members formally joining the congregation,
or members first accepting the responsibility of serving as office bearers.
4. Serve as a resource person for ministry leader volunteers, including facilitating or developing training, educational materials, mentoring relationships, or other pathways to equip volunteers with the skills necessary for effective leadership and ministry.
Identify and skillfully engage congregants in volunteer roles for which they are well suited, situating leadership for program components within the congregation itself, and emboldening members to rely on the Spirit’s strength to empower them in areas of
weakness.
5. Broaden involvement of congregants in opportunities for adult education and for outreach and evangelism.
6. As required by the council, perform all the duties and responsibilities of a Minister of the Word, such as but not limited to: preaching and administration of sacraments, as well as classical and denominational obligations.
7. Be present in the immediate neighborhood of the church site on a regular/weekly basis.
8. Fully support and adhere to Safe Church policy and practices.
9. Oversee and lead the youth summer empolyees.
10. In all of the above, manifest and communicate a Reformed world and life view.
The Pastor of Faith Formation will be directly accountable to the Council of Covenant CRC for the performance of duties.
Intended Outcomes
Covenant CRC anticipates that the Pastor of Faith Formation will assist our community in developing:
– cohesive programing for children and youth, that will promote increasingly personal and communal dedication to God and desire to live in service and witness to God’s kingdom
– ministry leaders who are well-supported and empowered to serve within their ministry areas, and who understand, value, and implement the faith formation process in their ministry areas
– programs, environments and processes that empower people at various stages in their faith journey to deepen their faith commitments and to fearlessly seek out the implications of God’s love in their lives
– clear and winsome processes for enfolding guests and new members into the life and ministry of Covenant CRC
Qualifications
The Pastor of Faith Formation is expected to have a combination of education and experience that will have equipped the applicant for the responsibilities of this position. An Ordained minister of the Christian Reformed Church or candidate for ministry is preferred, but alternate degree programs, such as an MA in Religious Education, will also be considered. There is an expectation that the successful candidate will become a member in good standing of Covenant Christian Reformed Church, and will participate actively in the life of the congregation.
Candidates should give evidence of pastoral sensitivity, and of the abilities to organize, lead, motivate and work with others. Candidates should feel called and gifted appropriately for the responsibilities of this position, including in areas of loving others, interpersonal communication skills, organization, vision casting, translating vision into actionable steps, and delighting in the
signs of God’s kingdom among us.
The compensation package will depend upon the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate, and will be developed in light of the synodical Ministers’ Compensation Guidelines.
Interested candidates should apply by email.
