Job Description
The Rector candidate should be a man of prayer dedicated to Scriptural and Biblical truths of the Holy Bible, and one who teaches the truths of following Christ and the traditional ways of the Anglican Communion.
The ideal candidate should be an Anglican Priest who has completed BDV seminary training, (MDV Preferred) at an ACNA recognized Seminary with preparation standards for seminaries of the Anglican Church in North America and approved Anglican Tracks as adopted by the College of Bishops in 2011. We seek a Priest who is committed to conservative, historic Anglicanism.
The Priest should live and lead the congregation in a godly manner, working closely with the vestry in church planning and management. He should be thoughtful of the needs of the congregation, while empowering each member to exercise his/her spiritual gifts. We are open to any candidate deemed by God to be the Rector who can best lead Saint Michael’s forward.
Worship Emphasis
We desire a candidate who upholds the authority of Scripture. He should be a student of all traditional forms of Anglican liturgy and devoted to upholding the sacred traditions of the church. Our current liturgy is a high worship style that features an organ and a choir led by a music teacher and member. Our hymnal is the current Book of Common Praise, originally published by the ACNA in 2017.
Discipleship and Growth
The Rector should be dedicated to the discipleship of church members and the overall growth of the church through community outreach. Saint Michael’s has existing ministries with our congregants to our local Veteran’s Home, as well as “Love In Deed” – a volunteer service to assist elderly people in the community with their lawn and garden work as well as small home repairs and various other projects. In 2020, we began an outreach to Bethpage Elementary School, providing books, grab and go breakfasts, toiletry packs and a lending library. In addition we participate in “Soles for Souls” to provide shoes and reach out to underprivileged children at Christmas each year.
An ideal quality the Priest should possess, is the ability to relate to each Parish family on their level. Providing spiritual wisdom and insight for people of every background and education in an understandable way. He should work along with our Deacon to help members of the church in growing spiritually and to meet their pastoral care needs. The priest should engage in personal and group teaching of small groups within the congregation. Being gentle of mind, but strong in the application of the things he believes in, not straying from Bible truths like so many liberal denominations do. He should also be committed to initiatives to bring in new members, especially young families. The Rector should also be available to offer counseling to parish members as needed.
We desire a Rector who has a passion to bring new people into the church while not neglecting the discipleship of our current members.
