Discipleship Pastor will be expected to be passionate about and personally live out while helping others to devote their lives to do the same. He will be expected to be a true servant leader; one who is teachable, humble, and a person of high integrity (1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:6-9). He will uphold the ministry philosophy and values of The Way Church and will help develop and oversee ministries to achieve the mission of the church.
Responsibilities: The Discipleship Pastor will: · Lead and minister alongside the Teaching Pastor, Elders, and Leadership Team while helping in the discipleship efforts across the landscape of the church. · Support and collaborate with the Teaching Pastor and Elders in fostering spiritual formation and transformation of the church. · Help with the administrative work within the church to include record keeping, tracking, and updating of pertinent church and discipleship databases. · Oversee discipleship strategies and processes of the various church-wide ministries. · Help to enhance, develop, and implement new discipleship strategies and processes as needed. · Recruit, train, and mobilize leaders to serve within the various ministries of the church. · Work with other leaders and members of the church to develop and implement strategies for reaching those far from Jesus within our community while seeking to extend our evangelism and discipleship efforts to the ends of the earth. · Participate in Sunday morning church-wide setup and pack up efforts. · Be an active participate in the small group ministry life of the church. · Serve under the direction and supervision of the Teaching Pastor.
Pastoral care: The Discipleship Pastor will fully share in the pastoral care of the church alongside the Teaching Pastor and Elders; responding to and assisting in the various immediate and pressing needs of the church.
Preaching: The Discipleship Pastor must be able to effectively handle Scripture; accurately exegeting the text while simultaneously delivering transformational messages that promote spiritual growth. He will be involved in the regular preaching rotation with the Teaching Pastor and fellow Elders.
Ministry Meetings: The Discipleship Pastor will be responsible for attending scheduled staff and leadership meetings in addition to Sunday morning worship gatherings.
Relational: Ministry is about caring for people. As expressions of loving God and loving others, the Discipleship Pastor will exhibit a heart for people through connecting with our staff, volunteers and congregants in a way that creates an environment that inspires people to become wholehearted followers of Jesus. This role requires the ability to work with various personality types and establish a strong culture of relationships and community through avenues of pastoral care and assimilation. Decision-making will require seeking input from others and ultimately making decisions based on convictions rooted in God’s Word. The Discipleship Pastor must be highly relational and have the ability to sincerely, effectively engage with people within our extremely diverse culture.
Organizational/Planning: Establish clear lines of communication with staff and volunteers. Exhibit the capacity to balance multiple activities with grace. Design and implement ways for people to connect relationally. Develop and maintain an annual plan that ensures continuous improvement and growth of small group involvement as a strong component of our discipleship process. Self-Motivator: Manage time effectively and efficiently. Ability to thrive in an interdependent and transparent work environment. Possess a strong work ethic. Ability to maintain a positive and proactive ministry environment. Equipping/Training: Plan and execute regular small group and Serve Team leader training, ensuring the existence of a healthy body of leaders who are effectively equipped for the work of ministry. Confidentiality: In the life of a church, confidentiality sustains a culture of trust and promotes confidence in those we serve. It is non-negotiable. Spiritual: Love Jesus more than you love ministry. This would be personally played out in your life through the study of the Word, prayer, and worship. The foundation of who you are is biblical humility; that your character is greater than your gifting and your humility is greater than your influence.
Compensation & Benefits: Compensation ranges from $50,000 to $60,000 annually based on experience. Paid vacation time, sick leave, and holidays. This position will be required to work a minimum of 40 hours per week with the occasional increase in hours due to special event preparation, planning, and execution.
