Introduction

Every pastor on our church’s staff is a valued part of a team, with each member bringing their own gifts and passions, under God’s leadership, to move our church toward the vision God has given us for impacting our community and our world.

The job description below is a generalization. When we bring onto our team the ministry partner God has prepared for us, we expect that this person will help shape the ministry methods and opportunities of our church as they add their own strengths and gift-set to the ministry leadership team.

Purpose

FBC is committed to raising up the next generation of leaders for the church. The approved candidate will serve as a member of the pastoral team and will be primarily responsible for ministry to students and families. This person will develop and implement an effective ministry plan for kids and students to align with FBC’s vision for NextGen ministry. Responsibilities include teaching, pastoral care, leadership development, and overseeing spiritual formation and activities of K-12th grade students.

As a member of the Pastoral Ministries Team, the AP of Family is to provide encouragement, back-up, and assistance to the other members of the Pastoral Ministries Team, and should expect to receive the same kind of support from the other team members.

Specific Responsibilities

1. Leadership and Vision: Provide leadership, direction, and vision for the family ministry department or team within the church.

2. Spiritual Guidance: Assist in the spiritual formation and growth of individuals and families through teaching, counseling, and pastoral care.

3. Program Development: Develop and implement programs and activities that promote the spiritual development and well-being of families, including children, youth, parents, and young couples.

4. Volunteer Recruitment and Training: Recruit, train, and equip volunteers to serve in various roles within the family ministry department, such as children’s ministry workers, youth leaders, and parent mentors.

5. Curriculum Selection and Development: Select or develop appropriate curriculum and resources for children, youth, and family-oriented programs, ensuring alignment with the church’s beliefs and values.

6. Outreach and Community Engagement: Develop strategies and initiatives to reach out to families in the community, building relationships and offering support and resources.

7. Collaboration and Teamwork: Work closely with other ministry leaders and staff members to ensure alignment and integration of family ministry with other church programs and activities.

8. Parent Education and Support: Provide resources, workshops, and support groups to equip parents with the skills and knowledge necessary for raising children in accordance with Christian values.

9. Event Planning and Coordination: Organize and oversee family-oriented events, such as retreats, conferences, and camps, fostering fellowship and creating opportunities for growth and connection.

10. Administration and Communication: Handle administrative tasks related to the family ministry department, including budget management, record-keeping, and communication with parents and volunteers.

11. Collaboration with the Lead Pastor: Collaborate with the lead pastor and other pastoral staff members to align the family ministry’s vision and goals with the overall mission and direction of the church.

The AP of Family Ministry is expected to pursue other expressions of ministry in the church in keeping with that person’s giftnessness, passions, interests, and time available. Ministry “experimentation” is valued, and activities that feed the minister’s spirit, mind, and heart are a priority for us as well.
