Staff Pastor – Overview and Position Description

The Rock Church in Sparks, Nevada is seeking to add an additional Pastor to our team. This person will work closely with the Pastoral staff, church staff, leadership team and other key ministry leaders to continue and develop the vision of a grace-based, inclusionary, and affirming ministry.  Our Pastors are team players who work together to develop sermon series, connect with our community, and create and implement the Rock’s vision for the future.

This person should be able and willing to teach 1-2 times per month but also be actively involved in other areas of the ministry. As a “utility player” your involvement could be in youth/college groups, small group oversight, care, counseling, outreach, worship, organization, maintenance, etc. We want someone who is interested in seeing God’s work come to life at The Rock in all areas of ministry and who is also willing to put in the effort where the needs are to see that become a reality.

Our staff shares a passion for the unchurched and de-churched of our community. We think outside the box of traditional church culture in an attempt to relevantly and relationally connect with our community. We’re looking for a “people person” who is focused on growing and developing a team of staff and volunteers determined to provide an irresistible environment here at the Rock. This person must be able to communicate and implement the mission, vision and goals of The Rock Church (as defined below) and carry the culture of The Rock into the future.

The Requirements

Essential qualities of the individual fulfilling the Role and Responsibilities of Pastor of The Rock Church should be:

Character: Must embrace and exhibit the character qualities of an overseer as outlined in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.
Competency: Must be able to plan, formulate, and oversee programs that meet the felt and spiritual needs of those who call The Rock home. Must be a leader of leaders who can recruit and train staff and volunteers.
Chemistry: Must be able to work with a diverse spectrum of ministry staff, volunteer leaders, and leadership team.
Collaborator: Must embody the skills necessary to operate in a consensus driven ministry. No one person sets the vision, mission, philosophy, and direction of The Rock. It’s done by working as a team until like-mindedness is accomplished. Additionally, the position requires an individual who is approachable and welcoming to others.
Conflict Resolver: Must be a skilled conflict resolver, a seasoned individual who has developed a personal style and system of working through conflict in a biblical fashion.
Contributor: Must be a seasoned and sacrificial giver, able to encourage others to release resources back to God in the same fashion as he/she does.

Job Type: Part-time

Salary: $65,000.00 – $80,000.00 per year
