Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Alexandria, VA is seeking a part-time Children’s Choir Director to reinvigorate the choral program for children. This part-time position is approximately 4 hours per week under the direction of the Lead Pastor and Music Director, in coordination with the Director of Children’s Ministries.

Responsibilities:
 Responsible for building, overall programming, management, and direction of the children’s choir
 Build a positive environment where children feel they belong, can have fun singing as a group, and are excited to be a part of.
 During weekly rehearsals, the Director will provide age-appropriate vocal development, help with understanding of biblical stories or messages, and improve performance skills while preparing the children to perform during worship.
 Supervise volunteers who lead the other children’s ensembles.
 Select and order music for each ensemble.
 Engage in ongoing recruitment.
 Communicate regularly with parents.
 Prepare children’s anthems during select worship services throughout the year.

Qualifications:
 Person of faith.
 Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or commensurate choral leadership experience.
 Elementary classroom experience.
 Ability to communicate age-appropriate musical information.
 Successful passing of state and federal background check
 Keyboard experience is helpful, but not required.

Salary: $5,000, paid August-May
Other: Upon successful hiring, employee must pass state and federal background checks, and complete Aldersgate’s Child Protection Policy and Safe Sanctuary training.
