Job Description
PURPOSE OF MINISTRY: The Worship Leader leads and coordinates the congregation’s worship activities, a core component central to the congregation’s religious life and mission.
MINISTRY DESCRIPTION AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Direct the planning, coordination, operation, and evaluation of a cohesive and thematic Sunday morning worship experience in collaboration with the pastoral team, support staff and volunteer leadership.
• Incorporate our worship values of authenticity, diversity, excellence, engagement and expectancy in worship planning and execution.
• Lead the choir, orchestra, and praise team or recruit and support a volunteer who does.
• Work with the Lead Pastor to plan and organize special worship services such as Ash Wednesday, Christmas Eve, etc.
• Supervise accompanists and volunteers involved in the worship ministry.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide musical guidance and/or accompaniment for weddings, funerals and other worship services determined by requests and availability.
• Provide the music assistant and audio/visual team information for the bulletin for worship and other special services.
• Assist in preparing the annual music ministry budget.
• Additional responsibilities and duties to be determined according to the gifts and interests of the successful candidate.
TIME COMMITMENT: This is a part-time position requiring flexible hours. Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings for rehearsals are required. This position could become a full-time position if a candidate is interested and has experience in another area of ministry for which the congregation is seeking leadership.
SKILLS, TALENTS, GIFTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
• Practicing Christian whose views and actions align with the teachings and beliefs of First Baptist Church, Jefferson City, MO.
• Knowledge of basic doctrines of the faith and the liturgical calendar.
• Ability to work successfully with a diverse group.
• Possess a working knowledge of music fundamentals to such a degree as to provide leadership to the many aspects of music and worship in the church setting.
• Possess organizational skills and abilities to be able to administer the worship ministries of the church.
• Ability to work collaboratively, communicate effectively within a team dynamic and share leadership.
• A humble, servant spirit who values diversity and hospitality and whose worship leadership is an overflow of personal worship of God.
• Comfortable with leading others to worship authentically, providing verbal guidance that guides worshippers to reflect and engage with worship.
• Open to trying creative worship ideas and methods at a healthy and appropriate pace for the congregation.
