Job Description: Director of Student Ministry
The vision of Hilton Head Presbyterian Church is to see lives transformed by the power of the gospel for the glory of God and the good of the Lowcountry. To that end, our mission is to multiply the worship, renewal and community of Jesus to the people and places of the Lowcountry, and through it, to the world. Our Director of Student Ministry plays a vital role in accomplishing our vision and mission in the lives of HHPC’s students. Through teaching, relationship building, discipleship, evangelism, activities, events, and training, the Director of
Student Ministry seeks the transformation of students into the image of Christ.
Reports to: The Pastor of Administration
Responsibilities
1. Sunday evening gatherings: Lead the weekly Sunday evening gathering, including: expositional teaching, game or activity, fostering a welcoming and relational atmosphere, small group discussion.
2. Sunday morning gatherings: Teach interactive classes, and recruit and train other teachers.
3. Discipleship: Meet with students regularly for one-on-one and group discipleship and Bible studies.
4. Events: Lead monthly events that foster community and relationships, and provide a place for students to invite their friends.
5. Volunteer recruitment and training: Build relationships with the membership of the church, and recruit and train members who have the gifts to disciple students.
6. Shepherding: Respond to situations that require pastoral care, both for students and volunteers.
7. Communication: Send weekly newsletters to parents with upcoming events; maintain Student Ministry social media accounts.
8. Safety: Assure that all Student Ministry programming is implemented according to the safety and security policies of HHPC.
9. Administration: Complete administrative tasks, such as event planning, financial records, budgeting, responding to email, etc.
10. Other duties as assigned by the Pastor of Administration.
Qualifications
1. Reformed Theology: A sincere commitment to Reformed doctrine.
2. Ministry Experience: Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, teach, and disciple students.
3. Theological Education: Training in Bible, theology, and ministry. A seminary degree is not required, but is a plus.
4. Relational Passion: Pursues all students, not only the most committed, for the purpose of life-on-life ministry and discipleship.
5. Integrity of Character: Living a mature life that embodies love of God and neighbor, exudes Christ-likeness, and bears the fruit of the Spirit.
6. Teachable Spirit: Demonstrates a growth mindset and seeks feedback.
7. Wise and Decisive: Sound and discerning leadership, yet able to make good decisions when adaptability and flexibility are required.
8. Team Player: Desires to collaborate with colleagues, volunteers, and parents in order to build the most effective ministry possible.
Education and Training
