    General Job Description

    The Associate Pastor is one who is gifted and called to church ministry, loves people, and has a passion for outreach and missions within a multi-generational congregation setting. He has a desire to proclaim the Word of God with conviction and confidence, encouraging the congregation to grow in Christ. The Associate Pastor is one who casts a vision for the ministries under his direction. He lives out the Great Commission by sharing the gospel boldly from the pulpit, in the community, and through one-on-one relationships.

    General Job Description

    The following defines general responsibilities performed by the Associate Pastor(s):

    • Support the Senior Pastor in the overall vision casting and leadership of the church

    • Assist the Senior Pastor to ensure worship services are planned and executed

    • Preach as needed and be prepared to be the backup speaker in case of last-minute need

    • Assist the Sunday morning volunteer groups, such as In Touch, Holy Grounds Coffee Ministry, Security, Media Team, etc.

    • Recruit, teach, train, spiritually support and effectively supervise volunteers for small groups and Bible studies within the church

    • Serve as an additional “face” of the staff during worship services by being available in the gathering area and/or sanctuary to greet attendees and be available for questions or prayer

    • Encourage the spiritual growth of all members

    • Teach Class 101, 201, 301 & 401 as needed

    • Visit members in the hospital, care facilities, and homes as needed

    • Conduct funerals and weddings as needed

    • Provide pastoral care and confidential counseling to children, youth, and families as needed

    • Intentional about building relationships with congregation, and tends to the spiritual needs of the congregation as one who will give an account to God

    • Helps create a community environment for the congregation to fulfill the “one-another” commands

    • Teach small group or Bible study classes as needed and called

    • Provide additional staff oversight for the volunteers responsible for Children and Student Ministries

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • The Associate Pastor(s) may be assigned calling-specific responsibilities according to their spiritual gifts, talents, abilities and according to the needs of the Church (i.e. Worship, Evangelism, Prayer, Youth Ministry, Senior Ministry, Discipleship, Missions).

    Personal Qualifications

    • Possesses personality, temperament, and interpersonal skills to relate and serve effectively within a multi-generational congregation setting, give evidence of a strong work ethic and personal integrity

    • Exhibit evidence of Christian character and servant leadership as stated in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, and 1 Peter 5:1-4 in work environment as well as in home/family setting

    • Give evidence of a spiritually balanced life (prayer, Bible study, rest, worship, financial stewardship)

    • Doctrinally aligned with FBC’s Statement of Faith, doctrinal positions, mission, and core values

    Education & Skills

    • Engaging experienced teacher who can bring practical life application to the scriptures

    • Demonstrate knowledge and ability to guide persons to become baptized disciples of Jesus

    • Knowledge and ability to use the Bible to guide a new disciple to ongoing spiritual maturity

    • Minimum five years of pastoral experience

    • Accredited SBC Seminary graduate preferred

    Hours & Benefits

    Associate Pastors will be classified as full-time, tax-exempt employees. The benefits offered will be consistent with the current policy, paid time off (PTO) and holidays. This is a minimum 40 hour per week position. The Administrative Council will provide a legal employment contract for all Associate Pastors.
