    Job Description

    SUMMARY

    Eastern Heights Presbyterian Church (EHPC) is prayerfully seeking a full-time pastor who is called by God and equipped to effectively preach and teach the Word of God. EHPC is a member of the Vanguard Presbyterian Church and adheres to the teachings of the Westminster Confession of Faith.

    MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Pastor shall preach the Gospel regularly and shall be at liberty to preach the whole counsel of the Word of God as the Lord leads him. He shall ensure the Word of God is preached with urgency and conviction, bringing it to bear on the changing needs of individuals, the community, and the world. High priority of the pastor’s time will be placed on sermon preparation. He shall administer the sacraments of the Church, act as a moderator at all Church meetings for the transaction of Church matters, supervise the teaching ministries of the Church, and tenderly watch over the spiritual interests of the membership. The Pastor shares members’ struggles regarding the Christian faith, with opportunity provided for individuals and groups to reflect on beliefs, concerns, and doubts regarding Christian understanding of the spiritual dimensions of life.

    The Pastor and Session work to develop a rich worship life, educating the congregation for meaningful participation. Pastor accepts appropriate administrative responsibilities, in climate of delegated tasks and shared leadership; volunteers and professional staff encouraged to use their ideas and skills. In his absence, he will be responsible for securing pulpit supply. The Pastor shall ensure all Church matters are conducted in accordance with The Book of Church Order of Vanguard Presbytery.

    Must be able to fulfill the spiritual needs of the congregation through visitations, prayer, conducting weddings, funerals and administering the sacraments of the church. The candidate must also possess the biblical and spiritual qualities as outlined in I Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9. Qualified candidates will possess a Masters of Divinity from an accredited seminary, or equivalent coursework, and have 5-10 years of ministry experience. Experience in counseling, leadership training, and church administration are preferred.
