    Job Description

    Your job’s purpose or goal is:

    1. Assist Engage church’s youth, as a partner with their parents, in following Jesus.

    2. Assisting the church in another area of ministry (pick 1: music, kids, college, groups)

    3. Growing in some of the skills needed to be a pastor: Leading volunteers. Discipling believers. Preaching Biblical messages. (Also Prayer & Evangelism)

    Eph. 4:12  equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ

    This part-time position is to be paid $1800 a month salary

    -based on average of 19 hrs per week, or around 80 hours a month (may be more/less at times)

    -at a hypothetical pay rate of $22+ an hour (though the job will not be hourly paid)

    -includes 2 weeks paid vacation (when requested ahead of time)

    -Pastor of Engage will function as supervisor for this position

    Here is a list of the duties for this position, but not limited to:

    1. Fridays:  Organize and Teach at Friday youth night 6:30-8pm – youth small group (5 hrs a week)

    • invite youth/leaders to attend weekly youth night (reminders via texts/social media)

    • organize games, snacks, discussion groups, etc. as needed for youth night

    • prepare and give relevant message for youth from scripture

    • recruit and oversee volunteers to help with youth program

    2. Sundays: assist with Sunday church setup, teach youth Sunday class (3 hrs a week)

    • assist with setup of church service and youth classroom, and breakdown after

    • prepare & lead youth class: Bible reading/discussion during message

    • connect with youth/parents and create relationships with them

    • once in awhile youth will stay in service (Lord’s Supper), possible youth Sunday

    3. Options, pick 1: assist with music / kids / college service / small group (4 hrs a week)

    • assist with music team (weekly practice, Sunday warm up / service)

    • oversee kidsChurch ministry & summer Vacation Bible School

    • weekly small group for college / young adults / families / adults

    • attend/serve at college service on University campus, reach students during week

    3. Monthly: hang out to connect with students (1 hr a week)

    Fishing, attend a sports game, mall trip, etc. (counseling/connecting)

    4. Three times a year: Youth outing/adventure (1 hr a week)

    • activities/adventures away from church (beach, hike, etc.)

    5. Four times a year: Preach a message (1 hr a week)

    • give Sunday message at Engage (2-3x) or at another church/ministry (1-2x)

    • study and prepare through the month to give a message (4 times a year)

    • meet with pastor before and after messages for input/feedback

    6. Annually: attend and help run summer Youth Camp with Engage youth (2 hrs a week)

    • recruit youth to attend a camp with other churches in summer

    • help run an aspect of the camp (games, registration, worship, etc.)

    7. Other infrequent duties:  (1 hr a week)

    • meet with the pastor or other staff for direction, encouragement, prayer, etc.

    • invite youth from the community to attend youth events

    • attend elder/deacon meetings (as needed)

    8. Additional duties from applicants vision for the youth program/church (1 hr a week)

    Other expectations:  

    • weekly attend Engage’s 2nd church service (when we have one)

    • hold a high conduct standard (be a good representative of us in the community)

    lifestyle and social media/internet posts are appropriate for a Christian

    Preferred Qualities

    Experience attending/helping/leading in a church youth ministry
    Experience in a Hawaii church (preferably one of our Baptist churches).
    Experience leading a program that gathers people and grows the program
    Great knowledge of the Bible and solid spiritual walk (prayer, evangelism, etc.)
    Good understanding of the cultural issues youth are facing
    Fun and creative personality that connects easily with young people
    Good communication, project management, administrative and organization skills.
    College education: 2yr or 4yr degree. Degree in Bible school or seminary not required

    If not ordained yet, after a year or two of serving well in this position, if you feel called into ministry long-term, you can choose to submit your name to the church leaders as a candidate for being ordained.
