Job Description
Purpose: To assist the Senior Pastor and Session in overseeing/managing/directing adult discipleship ministry
This AP is the point person for ensuring that CCC adult ministry is characterized by effective discipleship strategies and implementation.
Education and Training
o Masters of Divinity
o Ordained in the PCA or other Reformed Presbyterian Denomination
Faith, Church Life, and Character
o Affirmed by others as displaying the qualification of 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1
o Professing Christ follower/church member/pastor with a faithful track record for 10+ years
o High value of God’s Word, Reformed theology, and Presbyterianism
o A warm demeanor and winsomeness that reflects well Christ and His church
o High regard and love for the Church
o High regard for basic means of grace (Word, Prayer, Sacrament, Fellowship of believers)
o Love for leading and serving the spiritual formation of the adult community
o High regard for the importance of cultivating cross-generational impact in the church
o Able to exercise discernment and wise judgment, always conscious of the need for confidentiality
o Emotional stability demonstrated in not being easily offended or hurt
o Willing to navigate any offenses or hurts per Matthew 18
Experience and Abilities
o Five or more years of ministry experience in the local church (preferably on staff) or RUF campus minister
o Excellent administration and people management skills
o Proven ability to work well with, lead, and equip others
o Teaching ability
– Experience with Community Groups and/or other small group ministries
o Motivated work ethic and initiative
o Ability to work efficiently and independently, demonstrate the capability to multi-task and prioritize projects
o Effective and respectable communicator: Clear, polite in written, verbal, and social media form
Hours, Compensation & Vacation:
o Full-time position
o Competitive salary and benefits package with PCA churches of similar size and region
o Plus FICA (0.0765 FICA paid by CCC contingent on Pastor’s participation in social security)
o 4 weeks’ paid vacation
o Ministry expenses in addition: $1,200 cell phone, $4,000 mileage, meals, resources
Community Group System: Manage and multiply CGs
o Evaluate, equip & encourage current groups and leaders on all matters related to CGs
o Sustain and develop the current Community Group model with a focus on multiplying inter generational groups
o Recruit & train CG lay leaders
o Participate in a group with your family
o Create a rhythm for pastorally checking in with non-CG members
Adult Discipleship Seminars (ADS): Maintain and develop ADS Ministry
o Teach consistently in this venue (help administer Leadership training courses)
o Recruit, train, equip, and encourage ADS Teachers
o Maintain and improve upon CCC scope and sequence plan and targets
o Recommend a plan for Winterim and other strategic joint ADS classes
o Work in conjunction with administrative staff on the promotion of electives in a timely manner
Men/Women/Seniors Ministry – Lead, equip and encourage
o Assure Women’s, Men’s, and Senior’s Ministry Staff/volunteers align with overall direction and
philosophy
o Oversee the Director of Women’s Ministry and male lay leaders
o Develop and lead men’s discipleship endeavors/events
o Sustain, improve, and if needed develop other effective strategies for deeper discipleship of men
and women
o Oversee Senior’s ministry assistant
Outreach – Local, Global & Scattered
o Maintain and improve effective ways to connect our mission partners to our congregation
o Maintain and improve the Missions Committee and their involvement with our partners
o Maintain and improve upon CCC mission, vision, and policies
o Cultivate passion for local and global mission and scattered ministry through teaching/preaching,
fellowship suppers, ADS, communications and scattered ministry opportunities
o Mobilize some rhythm of short-term mission trips and/or Conferences
General Pastoral
o Equip and manage the “Post Worship Team”
o Vet and approve curriculum for all adult venues
o Assure Ministry Agreements are signed by lay teachers/leaders
o Pastoral ministry (general counseling, shepherding, administration, hospital/shut-in visitation)
o Preaching (6-8 times per year) and Sacraments (as assigned)
o Regular Teaching (ADS)
o Assist in leading worship and preparing liturgy as assigned
o Assist in the assimilation of visitors into membership and ministry venues of CCC
o Assist in helping transitioning families exit the church as needed
Personal
o Care for wife and children (as applicable)
o Maintain regimen of spiritual development (Bible study, prayer, Sabbath rest, health management,
accountability)
o Pursue professional development
o Pray fervently and systematically for the vision, leadership, ministries, and members of CCC
o Engage in Simpsonville community
Report to: Senior Pastor (Primary) Session (Secondary)
Maintain a strong and unified relationship consistent with CCC’s vision and mission
Attend all Session meetings and submit reports in a timely manner
Staff to Oversee: Director of Women’s Ministry, Director of Assimilation & Seniors, Adult Discipleship
Seminar (ADS) Teachers, Community Group Leaders and Men lay-leaders.
