Job Opening: Family Director/Pastor (Lisle Service)
Position Status: Full Time (40 hours/week)
Summary: The Family Pastor/Director has a dual role of 1) directly overseeing the coordinators and volunteers of the children’s ministry at Lisle and aiding in the shepherding of the whole family, including the parents and 2) functioning as the youth group pastor. The family pastor/director may be asked to serve in other capacities/ ministries as the session sees fit.
Organizational Relationships: Reports to Senior Pastor and Session. Support from the Executive Director.
*‘Family Director’ would be used for men or women who are not ordained PCA ministers
**‘Family Pastor’ would be used for an ordained minister in the PCA
General:
● Create a grace-filled and enthusiastic environment for spiritual nourishment of children and youth
● Provide a welcoming and supportive presence for parents and children
● Helpto equip and shepherd parents in the discipleship of their children
● Set the culture and tone of hospitality and passion for Children and Youth Ministry
● Develop annual curriculum and/or organize existing materials aligned with greater church theme and vision for both Children’s and Youth Ministry
● Collaborate with pastoral staff, executive team, and the Session to form practical strategies to help grow the ministry and cast vision
● Oversight and implementation of safety measures & policies to ensure a healthy environment for children
● A commitment to pray weekly for children and youth ministry and individual growth Children’s Ministry:
● Develop and oversee all aspects of the children’s ministry including Sunday programs, mid-week activities and special events.
● Create a fun, engaging, and safe environment where children can learn about Jesus and grow in their faith.
● Recruit, train, and equip a team of volunteers to support the children’s ministry.
● Collaborate with parents to support their role as the primary spiritual influencers in their children’s lives.
● Coordinate age-appropriate curriculum that aligns with TRC’s vision and theological foundation.
● Organize outreach events to engage the local community and introduce families to TRC.
● Maintain children and volunteer roster, tracking background checks, abuse training, etc.
Weekly Children’s Ministry Responsibilities:
● Organize and prepare weekly Children’s Ministry (CM) worship session and lessons
● Oversee check-in & check-out of children during Sunday worship
● Ensure each classroom volunteer has the appropriate supplies and materials to teach Sunday School
● Provide oversight and support of all classrooms, volunteers, and children
● Schedule volunteers for CM
● Distribute weekly lessons to parents to help nurture continued discipleship at home
● Provide regular updates to parents via weekly CM newsletter with helpful resources and articles
● Participate in all staff meetings & any staff retreats
Youth Ministry:
● Lead the middle and high school ministries, providing spiritual guidance, mentorship and discipleship.
● Plan and execute weekly youth gatherings, Bible studies, prayer times, and fellowship activities that challenge students to grow in their faith and live out the gospel.
● Provide monthly seminars for youth (or sermons, if ordained).
● Develop and nurture relationships with students, invest in their growth and help them navigate the challenges of their teen years with a Christ-centered perspective.
● Engage parents and guardians in supporting their teens’ spiritual journeys.
● Facilitate retreats, service & mission opportunities and other experiences that deepen students’ faith and foster community.
● Provide regular updates to parents via weekly YM newsletter with helpful resources and articles
Weekly Youth Ministry Responsibilities
● Plan and coordinate weekly youth group meetings for fellowship and Bible studies.
● Encourage the students in their walk with Christ via text, phone or email.
● Meet regularly with the Youth assistant to shepherd, plan and prepare
Ongoing Responsibilities
● Coordinate and facilitate regular parent meetings, keeping them informed of ongoing activities and ministry strategies in a way that encourages partnership and involvement
● Coordinate regular meetings with parent/volunteer support group to foster a partnership and collaborative spirit with parents of TRC
● Seek to integrate children and youth ministry into all phases of church life to create a culture that is intentionally intergenerational, striving to unite with and complement other church ministries.
● Provide proper training and preparation for CM and youth volunteers several times throughout the year
● Coordinate regular meetings with parent support group to foster a partnership and collaborative spirit with parents of TRC
● Develop relationships with parents and their children
● Commit to praying for the children and youth of TRC
● Coordinate and plan VBS during the summer
● Coordinate and plan family retreat during the spring
● Provide support for annual TRC church retreat, and organize volunteers or be the liaison for outside children’s ministry organization
● Provide support for TRC special events (trunk-or-treat, Promotion Sundays, Christmas pageant, Easter, etc.), including those that are not specific to TRC CM or YM.
● Plan and manage the children ministry and youth group budget, under the supervision of the elders and finance ministry.
● Any other reasonable requests made by the Senior Pastor or the Session related to Children’s and Youth Ministry
Requirements:
● Spends time daily with the Lord through His Word and prayer
● Committed to TRC’s vision and mission
● Has a passion for discipling and equipping parents and their children for greater spiritual maturity
● Strong leadership qualities, personable, and relatable
● Willing to submit to the authority and direction of the Senior Pastor and the Session
● Strong work ethic, disciplined, and desires excellence in their role
● Ability to communicate and work positively, effectively, and collaboratively with the staff, church officers, volunteers and parents
● Flexibility, adaptability, and willingness to adjust quickly in a constantly changing church environment
● Demonstrates adaptability, openness, initiative, integrity, teachability, and humility
● High level of responsiveness, ability to ask appropriate clarifying questions to anticipate needs and ability to manage tasks and time independently while paying close attention to details.
● Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism, discernment and discretion in dealing with and processing confidential and sensitive issues
● Background check
● Current certification in infant/children CPR (if not certified, this will need to be obtained and we will cover certification costs)
Working Hours: The Family Pastor/Director position requires flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. The position is full time and salaried. The actual numbers of hours required during any given week are those needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. It is recognized that the schedule may vary at different times of the year. Expectation is that the director will work on Sundays well as other specific times as agreed upon with the executive team and the session.
Salary and Benefits: Commensurate with the the latest PCA Compensation Study and candidate’s experience
