Job Description

Central Baptist Church of Johnson City, TN,, is actively seeking resumes for the position of Administration & Education Pastor. This person will be responsible for the oversight of the day-to-day operations of the church, including financial administration, and the coordination and development of the church-wide educational ministries.   • A sincere passion for Christ and the ministry
  • A minimum of a BS or BA degree from an accredited College/University
  • Advanced theological training and significant business experience required
  • A Master’s degree from a Theological Seminary or an MBA is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership, planning, & administration
  • Excellent organizational and people skills
  • Participation & familiarity with educational and discipleship ministries
  • Adept in promoting, enlisting, mentoring, & team building skills

The Administration & Education Pastor will be responsible for the oversight and management of the day- to-day operations of the church, including supervisory responsibilities for all non-ministerial staff, financial administration and reporting, and coordination of the church calendar and scheduling. In addition, the position is responsible for the coordination and development of the educational ministries of the church involving Sunday School, discipleship, Biblical studies, small groups, and leadership training for leaders, teachers, and mentors throughout the educational programs of the church.

REPORTS TO: Senior Pastor, Church Minister Relations Committee



  • Oversight and management of the on-going church operations
  • Supervisory responsibilities for the non-ministerial staff (full time), including Administrative Staff, Financial Secretary, Custodial Staff, and non-ministerial staff (part time) for Kitchen Food Services
  • Coordination with the Personnel Committee for human resources administration and performance evaluations for all non-ministerial employees
  • Administration of the various financial functions of the church, including financial controls & reporting, payroll, employee benefits, and budget planning with the Board of Directors
  • Planning and coordination for: church security, church-wide transportation & maintenance, building & grounds/facilities, and CBC website services and media team services
  • Serves as communication hub for church-wide calendaring and scheduling


  • Coordination and development of the educational ministries for: Sunday School, Discipleship, Biblical studies, and Small Groups
  • Coordination and leadership of an Educational Council to aid and participate in the program development, curricula, materials, resources, visual aids & technology in support of educational opportunities
  • Promoting the development and growth of small group learning opportunities
  • Coordination with other Ministerial Staff for educational growth opportunities within their areas of responsibility
  • Enlisting and providing training for a network of teachers, coaches, leaders, mentors, and interns who can lead people toward spiritual maturity in small group settings
  • Maintaining a creative awareness and familiarity with enhanced learning opportunities through technology, changing methodologies, and self-learning programs
  • Oversight and management of budget for education ministries
  • Volunteer appreciation and encouragement

  • Assist with such duties and functions as assigned for equitable distribution of staff responsibilities, as determined by the Senior Pastor
