The AP will have the privilege of leading all congregational discipleship efforts, sharing in the preaching and presiding at weekly worship services, coordinating the community serving ministry, responding to care needs within the congregation, and sharing in staff leadership.
The ideal candidate for this opportunity is a theologically trained (Master of Divinity degree) and dedicated Christ-follower characterized by a deep and growing love for Christ and the Church. He or she will also be an effective communicator, a team player who enjoys collaboration, and a person who loves people, listens well, and maintains healthy boundaries. He or she will also be affiliated with the ELCA or with one of its ecclesiastical partners, such as the Reformed Church in America.
Light of Christ Church, a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (Northern Illinois Synod, was planted in Algonquin in 1985. Since 2001, it has been led by Rev. Kendall Koenig. The church has been described as an “atypical Lutheran Church,” blending a commitment to its historic confessions with a commitment to the relevant and contemporary presentation of the Christian faith. This approach to life and ministry has helped the congregation experience steady numerical growth, leading to the need to construct of a new campus.
The Village of Algonquin, a community of over 30,000 residents located but 40 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, has been long known as a small river community. In the past twenty years, however, it has experienced considerable numerical growth and transitioned into a major regional hub. The village, described as one of the best places to live in the state of Illinois, offers residents a sparse suburban feel with highly rates public schools.
