    Job Description

    Purpose:  To direct the overall Children’s Ministry of Valley Brook Community Church so that children and their families come to know God and grow with Him through faith in Jesus Christ.

    Accountable to: Lead Pastor

    Overall Responsibility

    The overall ministry of the Children’s Ministry Director is to provide leadership and vision for Children’s Ministry for ages newborn through grade 5. The Director develops goals for Children’s Ministry in keeping with the vision and mission of Valley Brook. The Children’s Ministry Director will recruit and develop a team with which to fulfill the goals and mission of the Children’s Ministry.

    Key Working Relationships

    The Children’s Ministry Director is a member of the Valley Brook Leadership Team and will meet regularly, and sometimes separately, with the Lead Pastor, the church staff, and the Leadership Team for planning, sharing and prayer.

    Qualifications:

    • Mature Christian faith
    • Experience in teaching
    • Bachelor’s Degree (Preferably in ministry or education)

    Administration

    • Provide leadership and direction of Children’s Ministry newborn through Grade 5
    • Seek out and provide training opportunities for children’s workers and leaders.
    • Oversee volunteer application and screening process.
    • Prepare the budget and oversee it.
    • Order and review curriculum that best fits our mission.
    • Track attendance and do follow up with absent families.
    • Maintain and restock supplies.
    • Review current and new resources and trends in children’s ministry.
    • Maintain and update ministry job descriptions.

    Care

    • Follow up with families.
    • Provide care for children, especially sick, hospitalized and bereaved children.
    • Provide resources and opportunities for parent training and education.
    • Encourage, nurture and support volunteers.

    Sunday Morning

    • Recruit and train teachers and helpers for Sunday Morning programs
    • Maintain and train a substitute teacher pool.
    • Oversee and select curriculum.

    Nursery Ministry

    • Recruit and train a Nursery Coordinator who can oversee the staffing the church nursery during Sunday worship and education hours.
    • Oversee the Nursery Coordinator’s work with the nursery budget, equipment, cleaning and staffing.

    Summer Kid’s Camp (i.e.: VBS, Sport Camp, etc)

    • Develop goals and objectives.
    • Recruit and train director.
    • With director select curriculum, date and place.
    • Oversee staffing and recruitment.

    Midweek Programs

    • Recruit and train teachers and helpers for Midweek programs
    • Maintain and train a substitute teacher pool.
    • Oversee and select curriculum.

    Outreach

    • Develop programs to reach unchurched children and their families.
    • Develop purposeful fellowship events: Harvest Season, Easter, Movie night, etc.
    • Develop service projects for the community.

    Other Ministry Responsibilities

    • Other assignments as directed by Lead Pastor

     Status:  Full-time (40 hours per week). This position may grow to a full-time Children’s Ministry Director at which time the Discipleship Ministry Director responsibilities will be removed.

    FSLA Status:  Exempt
