First Baptist Church of Kenova is searching for a senior pastor. FBC Kenova is an elder-led, evangelistic and missional church set in the heart of the Tri-State area (WV, KY, OH). As the largest church in our state convention, Kenova has also been one of the top missions-giving churches as more than 25% of our budget is designated for outside missions. In 2018, God blessed us to average at least one baptism per week. Our multi-generational congregation worships in a setting of expository preaching and contemporary music in two Sunday morning services at our main campus in Kenova, where before the quarantine, we were averaging 600-700 in attendance per week. We also have a campus fifteen minutes east in Huntington, just two blocks from Marshall University, a D-1 university with more than 15,000 students. Our church meets on these two campuses, but also maintains a strong partnership with our sister church, FBC Ashland, KY, just fifteen minutes to our west. FBC Kenova is a church that stands on the Word of God even when it might be unpopular with our culture or other communities of faith.
With a history of effective children’s and youth ministries, FBC is known as a place where we love our children well. “Church family” is our motto and sharing Christ’s love is our message. Additionally, more than 65% of our adult and youth members are involved in some type of small group discipleship setting.
We are looking for a Lead Pastor with exceptional skill in teaching, discipleship, leadership, vision and depth of Scriptural knowledge. The ideal candidate must have the ability to communicate to people from a wide array of educational and economic backgrounds. Our hope is that he has a desire and gift of discipling other ministers both to mature those that are serving in our congregation, but also to develop ministers that will eventually serve others. We believe strongly in internships and developing the next generation of ministers. The ability to help oversee more than a dozen staff and a seven-figure budget is strongly desired.
We aim to find an experienced pastor who believes in the inerrancy of God’s Word and that all scripture is God-breathed to lead our congregation. He must meet the requirements of a pastor set forth in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1. His education should include a minimum of a Masters of Divinity degree. His experience should be relate to a church similar to the size of Kenova preferably with an average attendance of 400 or more. He must be open and submissive to the plurality of elders, which we have established as the Council of Shepherds.
