    Job Description

    DESCRIPTION
    The Director of Worship and Children’s Ministry is a salaried, ministry staff position, who is a mature disciple of Jesus Christ and one who subscribes to the constitution of the Presbyterian Church in America and is pursuing an ongoing life of faith and repentance.

    The worship of God and ministry to children are at the heart of Grace Kernersville’s mission. The Directory of Worship and Children’s Ministry will work to cultivate a community that worships together and ministers to the needs of the youngest among us.

    As Director of Worship, the Director will endeavor to lead the congregation in worship that is sincere, grace-magnifying, and God-glorifying worship while helping the congregation move through the rhythms and seasons of the church year. The Director will work to encourage musicians to grow in their craft, develop and train new worship team members, and oversee the technical/audio visual team. The Director will not merely focus on developing and bettering the capacities and capabilities of the worship team members, but the Director will work to encourage and nurture their spiritual growth in becoming worshipers of the living God and the risen Christ.

    As Director of Children’s Ministry, the Director will endeavor to lead the congregation in ministering to Grace children through the ministry of a team(s) of volunteers who work together to lead children to Jesus by providing resources, classes, events, and opportunities for children to meet Jesus and to grow in the knowledge of Him. The Director will work to develop those who desire to and are working with Children so that they may lead with maturity, responsibly, and dependently on Christ, and he/she will oversee the Children’s and Youth Ministry Teams in their functions.

    Though this position does not require ordination in the Presbyterian Church in America, it may be filled by an Assistant Pastor or one who is pursuing ordination.

    SKILLS REQUIRED
    The Director of Worship and Children’s Ministry shall be an effective communicator, able to teach, able to lead with a servant-heart, able to work as team member, be proficient in piano and/or guitar, be competent
    or capable in using a computer, be familiar with presentation/event slideshow applications, google suite software, and Microsoft applications. They must be able to read, transpose, and/or write music, able to maintain a good rapport with parents, students, and team members, enjoy children, and exhibit emotional maturity.

    WORSHIP TEAM LEADERSHIP
    Develop, shepherd and manage all aspects of corporate worship at [Grace Kernersville], in concert with the Pastor and Session.
    Schedule, prepare for, and lead worship team rehearsals, including any support/technical staff
    Shepherd worship team members, providing opportunities for spiritual growth, personal care and teambuilding
    Seek out and develop the musical gifts and worship-leading skills of members of the congregation so that an increasing number of members are involved in the worship ministry
    Assist in developing young musicians to participate in and/or lead worship
    Design, prepare and lead special programs featuring choir and/or instrumental ensembles from time to time
    Supervise and shepherd those team members engaged in technical production, as vital members of the worship ministry
    Oversee the worship ministry budget.

    WORSHIP LEADERSHIP
    Craft (in concert with the Pastor and Session) worship services centered in the ordinary means of grace (the Word, prayer, and sacraments) that proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ for unbeliever and believer alike
    Facilitate the leading of all services of worship (including occasional special services), balancing historic hymnody with newer songs and  hymns in forms contextualized to the local church.
    Provide information on the worship service(s) for publication in the weekly bulletin in coordination with church staff.

    WORSHIP AND MUSIC EDUCATION
    Facilitate the teaching of the worship team and the congregation about liturgy and worship, both in the ordinary course of leading worship and in classes and seminars that may be offered from time to time
    Facilitate (in concert with designated staff) the musical and liturgical growth of our children.
    As time affords, provide opportunities for music instruction to those among the Grace community which would be paid for by the student as set by the Instructor.

    CHILDREN’S MINISTRY TEAM LEADERSHIP
    Provide support for the Children’s Ministry Team. Nursery through 5th grade. Oversee a Nursery Coordinator, schedule, and/or volunteers.
    Provide support for the Youth Ministry Team. Sixth grade through 12th grade.
    Assist the CMT and YMT in teacher recruitment, training, and encouragement
    Oversee the selection, purchase, and maintenance of appropriate curriculum.
    Select, purchase, and maintain appropriate teacher supplies, materials, etc….
    Propose and maintain the Children’s Ministry budget with input from the Children’s Ministry Team.
    Propose and maintain the Youth Ministry budget with input from the Youth Ministry Team.
    Provide leadership and support for annual evangelistic/discipleship events such as: VBS or Backyard Bible Clubs, Easter Egg Hunt, Birthday Party for Jesus, Open Doors, and Fall Festival.
    Oversee logistics regarding Children’s and Youth wing facilities and maintenance of rooms, closets, etc….

    COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
    Regularly participate in the cultural life of the Triad and build relationships with other artists
    Participate personally in musical groups and societies according to interest and as time permits to grow as a musician and to build relationships with other artists
    Cultivate and further develop community arts efforts.
    ● Lead the church’s involvement in community events (where possible) to offer leadership and influence on the arts community
    ● Participate in associations of church musicians to strengthen ties with other PCA and like-minded churches and ministries
    ● Explore ways to lead church musicians in ministering musically beyond the walls of the church, whether locally, regionally or globally.

    ATTENDANCE IS EXPECTED AT THE FOLLOWING

    WORK ETHIC
    ● Work week consists of approximately 45-50 hours per week.
    ● More hours may be required as necessary.
    ● Flex days for accrued comp time may be awarded at the Senior Pastor’s discretion.
    ● Office hours are flexible as evening meetings are required.
    ● Is supervised by and reports to the Pastor.
