The Minister to Children and Parents will be responsible for providing leadership and guidance to the spiritual needs of children, first through sixth grade, and their families. The Minister to Children and Parents must be highly relational. He / She will need to have a strong team mentality leading staff and volunteer teams to provide spiritual development of both children and parents through regular, ongoing programming, and special services/events. He / She is expected to contribute to the team spirit of the staff through fellowship, dedication, cooperation, encouragement, prayer support as he/she serves Christ at FBC. This is a full-time position that is responsible to the Senior Pastor.
I. Congregational and Staff Relationship:
A. Be a God-called person viewing their primary role as a minister of the gospel who consistently represents the love and light of Jesus Christ to everyone you encounter.
B. Exhibit care and concern for all ministries and programs of First Baptist Church, Montgomery.
C. Coordinate actions with other ministers and office staff as appropriate and as a cooperative and encouraging teammate.
II. Primary Responsibilities:
A. Work with lay leadership in Bible Fellowship, Discipleship Training, Vacation Bible School, and Mission Organizations in developing and implementing a balanced program of Bible study, discipleship, witness training, missions education, and social recreational activities.
B. Encourage and equip parents to be the chief disciple makers of their homes.
C. Work in cooperation with appropriate persons, including the nominating committee, in selecting, enlisting, training, and counseling with workers in the program organizations.
D. Conduct special training projects focused on education and motivation of workers.
E. Promote a regular program of outreach for the Children’s Ministry in cooperation with the overall church program of outreach.
F. Study and make recommendations for needs in the Children’s Ministry such as literature, organization changes, space use changes, equipment and furnishings needs, and policies and procedures of operation.
G. Participate in the church visitation program to prospective members, potential leaders, hospitals and crisis visits as assigned.
H. Personally participate in relationship evangelism by witnessing to lost and unchurched persons.
I. Attend weekly staff meetings and other education team meetings as needed.
J. Prepare a recommended annual budget plan for the Children’s Ministry. After approval, administer the expenditure and financial operations according to the church financial policies.
K. Develop and maintain a program and activities calendar for the Children’s Ministry. Coordinate calendar with other age-groups and church calendar.
L. Create and maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all guests, children, and their families.
M. Serve as resource person for the Children’s Ministry by keeping informed of denominational goals, publications, current educational methods, promotional ideas, and administrative techniques.
N. Assist the Education Office in gathering and maintaining pertinent records for the division.
III. Other Responsibilities:
A. Work with the Children’s Ministry Leadership Council in planning, leading, organizing, coordinating, and evaluating the children’s ministry.
B. Guide council, parents, and leaders in a plan for leading older children to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and assisting their discipleship process.
C. Visit children and their families on a regular basis for personal contact.
D. Provide resources, seminars, workshops, etc. which will assist in effective Christian parenting.
E. Implement and maintain an ongoing training and orientation for children who are new Christians and new church members.
F. Perform other duties when requested by the Pastor.
