Job Description

Position Reports To: Senior Pastor

Education: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree; Master of Divinity or equivalent is preferred, but not required.

Experience: Ministerial experience leading children’s ministry in a church setting preferred.
• A personal, observable relationship with Jesus Christ, and a sense of calling from God to serve the church as a minister.
• A lifestyle that reflects and models spiritual maturity in Christ, Christian ethics, personal morality, and the core values of First Baptist Church of Griffin.
• Commitment to traditional Baptist beliefs and distinctives, especially as they relate to the life and workings of a Baptist congregation.
• Commitment to continuing education and growth through reading, attending conferences, formal classwork, and other professional development opportunities.
• Personality gifts that relate effectively to children, their families, and the community at large.
• Giftedness in leadership, recruitment, and organizational management.

Primary Responsibilities:
• In collaboration with the Children’s Ministry Council, develop a clearly defined vision and strategy for discipleship within the Children’s Ministry (birth through grade five) that works in conjunction with the overall vision and ministry of First Baptist Church of Griffin.
• Recruit, train, schedule, and oversee adult volunteers, interns, and paid employees in the children’s ministry.
• Develop and implement strategy for whole-family discipleship, working with families to equip and empower parents/families to disciple their children.
• Provide oversight and planning for all aspects of Children’s Ministry programming, including:
◦ Sunday School
◦ Sunday morning Children’s Worship
◦ Wednesday night programming
◦ Outreach events
◦ Family events/programming
◦ Summer Activities (camp, VBS, etc.)
◦ Curriculum selection/development for all programming
• Communicate with church leaders, children’s ministry families, and the entire congregation the story of what God is doing in the children’s ministry (i.e. purpose, value, procedures, and events).
• Provide oversight to the Children’s Ministry budget and help develop the budgetary needs for upcoming years.
• Implement the FBC safety policy regarding children.
• Coordinate with the Minister to Students to develop a transitional program from children’s ministry to the youth group.
• Develop ways children can cultivate leadership skills and gain a greater sense of ownership in their respective ministries as well as the church’s overall ministry.
• Connect with other churches and Christian organizations (especially state and global Cooperative Baptist Fellowship), using these relationships to enhance the faith journeys and growth of children and their families.

Secondary Responsibilities:
• Work as a team with the rest of the ministerial and support staff, including making every effort to attend all staff functions (i.e. staff meetings, retreats, planning sessions, etc.).
• Participate in weekend worship services and other church-wide events, even if they do not directly affect the Children’s Ministry.
• Share in ministerial responsibilities, including, but not limited to:
◦ Hospital visits
◦ “Minister on call” duties
◦ Pastoral care – especially to children and their families
◦ Serving as Staff Liaison to assigned committees and ministry teams
◦ Other ministerial duties – preaching, baptisms, funerals, counseling, etc. – as necessary
• Other responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.

Physical Requirements: Good general health and capable of lifting 50 pounds; physically active enough to participate in children’s activities and sports.
