Our church is seeking an interim pastor who can focus their experience, knowledge, and creativity to support and expand our current work in the community. We choose this priority as the means by which we focus on our vision of serving as Christ’s disciples in the world. We would look to this pastor to support our mission and spiritual formation efforts while maximizing our personnel and financial resources. They would guide us in discerning how our brothers’ and sisters’ needs can best be met by a church of our size and demographic composition. We would also expect the applicant to thoroughly understand the PCUSA’s initiative of encouraging congregations to become “Matthew 25 churches”. Specifically, we would ask them to continually remind us of our obligation to effectively address the deep-rooted sources of poverty in our community, to seek to discover the historical and cultural origins of why we deliberately or subconsciously disadvantage those of different races in our nation, and to live out our faith through activism in service against injustice and those in need. In this way, we can stay focused on Christ’s admonition to fill the needs of the world’s hungry, poor, needy, and incarcerated, and thereby live out our desire to be “worship-centered and mission-oriented”. Our church annually gives 10% of our budget to mission and are currently a debt-free congregation.

The successful applicant to this position should be a talented and resourceful person, a process manager and administrator. They should guide rather than govern and inspire the congregants to find and fill their niche in church service. He or she would assist Christian Education and others in crafting a meaningful curriculum for everyone that utilizes the gifts of the church’s many Biblical and theological scholars. They need to be alert to the physical as well as the spiritual needs of our aging congregation. Be a faithful presence in shut-in homes and hospital rooms. Plan and deliver relevant sermons that worshippers can take into their lives throughout the week. Cast an eye to the future for proactive resolution of potential problems.
What specific tasks, assignments, and program areas will this person have responsibility?
- Head of Worship at two services each Sunday and Virtual Services, if necessary
- Head of Staff
- Coordination of Sunday Services with the Worship Committee and the Director of Music
- Pastoral Care to the Congregation
- Support Christian Education
- Moderate Session Meetings
- Attend committee meetings as needed or requested
Minimum Effective Salary: $55,000
