    Job Description

    The pastor shall serve as the chief under-shepherd and overseer of John Sevier Baptist Church, feeding, leading and nurturing the sheep. His main responsibilities will be to communicate God’s Word, minister to spiritual needs and provide biblical leadership for the church.

    Job Type Designations

    Full Time Pastor – 40 hour work week
    Part Time Pastor – 25 – 30 hours per week

    The Pastor is allowed two (2) weeks vacation and two (2) weeks sick leave per year with the church paying the supply.

    Minimum Training and Experience:

    • A biblical degree is highly desirable
    • Previous experience in one or more Pastorates
    • Ability to interact with all people at all levels of socioeconomic status
    • An obvious and evident anointing of the Holy Spirit of God
    • A joy in the love of Jesus Christ that is enthusiastic and evident

    Special Requirements:

    1. Converted and called to the pastoral ministry
    2. Licensed and ordained as a minister of the Gospel of Southern Baptist churches
    3. Spiritual and personal integrity and maturity
    4. Ability and eagerness to share Christ and disciple others
    5. Positive human relations skills
    6. Obvious motivational skills
    7. Ability to communicate well through a pulpit ministry
    8. Proven love and faithfulness for his wife, his family and the fellowship of a local church
    9. Ability to empathize with the deep concerns of the congregation

    Duties – Responsibilities:

    1. Spend significant time alone with the Lord in prayer and Bible study.
    2. Proclaim the Word of God in a regular pulpit ministry
    3. Oversee church staff. Meet weekly with ministerial staff to plan and provide direction for worship services and church led programs. The Pastor shall establish and keep reasonable, regular office hours.
    4. Provide leadership and vision for the church. Direct plans for ministry and church growth; develop and fine-tune the church structure based on the Team philosophy of ministry.
    5. Motivate, equip and nurture the people of the church through example, preaching and teaching God’s Word and spiritual counseling.
    6. Facilitate the contact/visitation of hospitalized or grieving church members, as well as our shut-in members.
    7. Officiate at weddings and funerals.
    8. Oversee church discipline and manage conflict at John Sevier Baptist Church. Seek to reconcile relationships and promote unity within the church.
    9. Participate in evangelism efforts through preaching and giving invitations during worship services, revival or other special services, visitation and other outreach efforts.
    10. To manage his money with integrity so as not to bring reproach upon the church.
    11. The Pastor shall moderate all business meetings of the church.
    12. Work with the deacon body, church council and the various standing and special committees in accomplishing their respective duties.
    13. Lead in observance of the ordinances of the church.
    14. Cooperate with local, state, and denominational leaders in matters of mutual interest and concern; keep the church informed of denominational developments; represent the church in denominational and civic matters
