Our Pastor will be passionately committed to knowing our Lord and Saviour. He will preach understandingly, boldly, and lovingly, from God’s heart through his own heart, to our hearts. He will reflect the Good Shepherd as our under shepherd, serving us with the Gospel of Christ in thought, word and deed. He will, in humility, exercise encouragement and admonition and see to it that everything is done decently and in good order. He will encourage the enfolded, and eagerly seek the lost and straying. Our pastor will encourage us, challenge us, and develop us to be co-ministers to each other and to our neighbours. Our Pastor must be teachable, humble, hospitable and responsible. He will reflect Jesus to us, seeking perfection, but being willing to admit he hasn’t reached it, and will be patient with us as we grow together to become more like Jesus.
Small Groups (in conjunction with Council): Encourage us to be actively involved in small group ministry. Teach us and learn with us to be disciples. Grow with us through Bible study, prayer, fellowship and care.
Outreach: Hold the challenge of evangelism before the congregation as an urgent priority. Take us with you into our community. Preach, teach, and model the reach of Jesus to us.
Preaching & Worship: Plan and lead worship services, Hear God and hear us as you prepare. Teach us to discern our gifts and talents, and encourage us to use them in our corporate worship.
Council/staff/Denominational Relations: Attend all full Council meetings, not as a voting member, but in an advisory capacity according to our by-laws. Support and with us develop the mission and vision of Council and church. Be available for classical, denominational, and community responsibilities as time and circumstances allow, in consultation with Council.
Pastoral Care: Love us. With us love our neighbours. Lead us in pastoral care to those in the hospital, those in need of surgery, to the sick at home, to those who are in need of long-term care, the widows and widowers, those who have had a death in the family or who are experiencing emergency or crisis situations, and parents with new children. Teach us to reflect the compassion of Jesus to our brothers and sisters in humanity wherever and whoever they are.
Spiritual Growth: Partner with leadership to develop, encourage and promote broad member involvement in educational opportunities for all ages. Mentor us and be mentored as we grow together. Model the fruits of the Spirit – model hospitality, model stewardship of the gifts you’ve been given, teach us to do the same, and grow with us in becoming the Body Christ meant us to be, . .
Teaching: Listen to and learn from Jesus, and what you hear, pass on to us. Work with council to visit and encourage groups within the church. Discern needs, assist in group transitions: formation, changes, conclusions. Teach catechism classes as needed and prepare youth for profession of faith.
We’re looking for somebody to reflect Jesus to us. We’re not looking for somebody perfect. We’re looking for someone to press on with us in taking hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of us.
