    Job Description

    Purpose: The senior pastor will serve God’s church at Bethany Presbyterian by overseeing or directly leading all ministries related to the church. He will provide sound biblical preaching and teaching and have a shepherd’s heart toward people in the congregation and
    community of all ages and various cultures. The senior pastor will serve as the head of staff and moderator of the session with a comprehensive understanding of administrative functions of the church.

    Qualification:

    A deep, abiding, and growing faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord that permeates every aspect of life
    At minimum, a Master of Divinity degree
    Already ordained or willing and qualified to pursue ordination with the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC)
    ➢ A collaborative leadership style with strong listening and communication skills
    ➢ A model of godly leadership in his home

    Preferred Experience:
    ➢ Minimum 5-10 years of significant ministry leadership as lead or associate pastor

    Responsibilities:
    ➢ Worship, Preaching, Teaching
    ○ Design, implement, and evaluate all worship experiences for the congregation to ensure effective style, content, and structure with the assistance of the worship team
    ○ Lead in worship that reflects the Reformed, Evangelical, Presbyterian, and Missional identity of Bethany Church as an EPC congregation
    ○ Regularly preach expository sermons deeply rooted in Scripture, emphasizing practical application to daily life, with an authenticity and humility that appeals to believers and unbelievers alike
    ○ Capable of providing in-depth, faith level appropriate Bible studies as the lead teacher of the congregation enabling attendees to continue growing and maturing in their relationship with Jesus Christ and to fulfill The Great Commission.

    Leadership

    Work with the Session to inspire and fulfill God’s vision for Bethany Church
    ○ Oversee the ongoing health process at Bethany Church
    ○ Motivate and guide the congregation through our revitalization process, thereby causing members to grow in their own faith practices of making disciples who make disciples
    ○ Assist the Session, Implementation Team, and ministry committees in designing and enacting the strategic plans and goals for each of the church’s ministries
    ○ Lead and disciple the leadership teams and staff, providing spiritual and professional guidance and development opportunities which enables them to flourish in their positions and their faith
    ○ Encourage leadership teams to identify and develop new congregational leaders through recruitment, training, coaching, and mentoring.

    Pastoral Care
    Inspire the congregation to grow spiritually through Bible studies, small groups, and other outreach and relational ministries
    Administer the sacraments under the guidance of the Session
    Oversee the care of those hospitalized or shut-in

    Missions
    Actively participate in the Missions/Outreach Ministry of Bethany Church
    Equip and mobilize the staff and congregation in their role of evangelism locally and globally and in the development of strategic outreach ministries and initiatives
    ○ Regularly communicate missional programs and prayer needs of our missional partners to the congregation

    Administration
    Work with the Nominating Committee to guide the process of selecting candidates for elder and deacon positions
    Promote, educate, and cultivate a culture of generosity at Bethany Church, along with support from the Finance Committee
    Provide general oversight to the fiscal processes of the church
    ○ Oversee and participate in regular communication to the congregation on stewardship, pastor concerns, and missional opportunities through newsletters and other media
    ○ Support and participate in denominational courts and events
    ○ Actively participate in the work of the General Assembly, Presbytery, and Ministry Network activities

    Professional and Personal Development
    Devote time to spiritual, emotional, and physical development and well-being using vacation time and Session-approved study leave to read, attend courses, seminars, and workshops as appropriate.
