Job Description

Chester Baptist Church (www.chesterbaptist.com) is seeking a full-time Senior Pastor to lead the church in its mission to create devoted followers of Jesus Christ.  Chester Baptist Church, founded in 1905 and a member church of the Baptist General Association of Virginia, is located in the heart of Chester, Virginia, a suburb of Richmond Virginia.  With weekly attendance of approximately 150 people across two services (one contemporary and one traditional), Chester Baptist is focused on expanding its reach in the community by expanding its evangelistic and outreach ministries.  We are looking for an energetic, visionary person to lead us in God’s mission for our church.

Responsibilities of the Senior Pastor will include but are not limited to:

  • Provide leadership to all parts of the church, including the staff and committees, in implementing action plans to accomplish God’s vision for our church
  • Provide leadership, direction and feedback to all staff
  • Provide leadership in the planning and execution of all worship services
  • Provide effective, meaningful, biblically-focused sermons
  • Provide pastoral care to troubled, sick and grieving church family
  • Provide support to the Chester Baptist Church Preschool and give guidance in its’ spiritual ministries
  • Lead the church in outreach ministries in our community

Minimum requirements of the candidate include:

  • A theological degree from an accredited seminary or divinity school
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as an associate pastor in a large Baptist church and/or a senior pastor in a Baptist church similar in size to Chester Baptist; experience must include leading worship services, administering ordinances, preaching sermons, providing spiritual guidance to members, and leading others to know Christ
  • Strong biblical knowledge
  • Strong communication skills in and out of the pulpit
  • Proven ability to lead people to implement a shared vision
