We are seeking a pastor who has had a clear calling by God to the pastoral ministry. In addition we would expect him to have a clear calling to First Baptist Church of San Angelo, Texas. We are looking for a pastor who will respect our historical congregational ties to the Baptist General Convention of Texas as well as to other Baptist organizations. He should embrace and uphold traditional Baptist principles as stated in the BFM1963.
This candidate will have been ordained to the ministry by a Baptist church. He should be a gifted speaker and communicator able to effectively convey the message of the gospel as a pastor-teacher and preacher. We desire an expository preacher of the Word who will proclaim a Divinely inspired gospel message of redemption, faith, and grace to enable the congregation to hear and understand biblical truths in a relevant way that is applicable to their daily lives. He should encourage mission outreach locally, nationally, and internationally.
We desire to have a pastor who possesses wise leadership abilities and experience working with multiple, full-time staff members. He should be a secure and confident leader, able to make difficult decisions when necessary and stand by his convictions. He will connect personally with all members of our congregation, which is diverse both in age and background, demonstrating good interpersonal skills on an individual level. He will have the gift of hospitality where all feel welcome. He will reach beyond our church and be a good citizen of our community at large, where he will have influence among those who are unchurched.
We pursue a pastor who has a genuine concern and love for people and who will strive to build meaningful relationships with members, with the ministerial staff, and with individuals outside the congregation. The pastor needs to be able to lead a mission minded, downtown church and shepherd a congregation that is diverse and multi-generational, and seeks to honor the great commission.
