    Job Description

    MTZB’s current Senior Pastor has announced his retirement from full-time ministry in March 2022 after serving at the church for 33 years.  The Senior Pastor Search Committee is currently seeking resumes to fill the upcoming vacancy.  The committee’s intent, under the direction and will of the Lord, is to receive resumes over the coming weeks as we prayerfully seek the man that the Lord has already chosen as our next Pastor.


    Summary of Position

    The pastor shall serve as the chief under-shepherd and overseer of this local church, feeding, leading and nurturing the sheep. This person s main responsibilities will be to communicate God s Word, minister to spiritual needs and provide biblical leadership for the church.


    • A believer by salvation from the Lord Jesus Christ and a firm commitment to His Lordship.
    • A calling to the ministry and this type of work within the church.
    • An intense desire to bring others to Christ and to see them grow to spiritual maturity.
    • A person of strong moral character who is not engaged in activities that would grieve the Holy Spirit or violate the membership covenant of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
    • A commitment to the inerrancy, infallibility, and inspiration of God’s Word.
    • Affirm the Articles of Faith of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

    Education Requirements

    Minimum: Master of Divinity degree.

    Experience Requirements

    Minimum: 5+ years of experience in a pastoral ministry position (e.g., Senior Pastor, Associate Pastor, Pastor of Education and Discipleship).

    Specific Responsibilities

    • Proclaim the Word of God in a regular pulpit ministry
    • Oversee pastoral staff.
    • Provide direction for the church program.
    • Provide leadership and vision for the church.
    • Direct plans for ministry and church growth; develop and fine-tune the church structure based on the Team philosophy of ministry.
    • Motivate, equip and nurture the people of the church through example, preaching and teaching God s Word and spiritual counseling.
    • Spend significant time in prayer and Bible study.
    • Facilitate the contact/visitation of hospitalized or grieving church members.
    • Officiate at weddings and funerals.
    • Oversee church discipline and manage conflict in the church. Seek to reconcile relationships and promote unity within the church.
    • Participate in evangelism efforts through preaching and giving invitations during worship services, revival or other special services, visitation and other outreach efforts.
    • Moderate all business meetings of the church (when possible).
    • Work with various standing and special committees in accomplishing their respective duties.
    • Lead in observance of the ordinances of the church.
    • Cooperate with local, state, and denominational leaders in matters of mutual interest and concern; keep the church informed of denominational developments; represent the church in denominational and civic matters.

    Other Responsibilities

    Abide by the Christian Code of Conduct specified in the church Employee Handbook concerning confidentiality, time and attendance, and professional demeanor commensurate with this position.
