We are currently seeking a full time Senior Pastor who is a dedicated preacher, learner, and
teacher of God’s Word. This person will oversee the life and direction of the church along with and under the guidance of our church Constitution and By-laws and Board of Deacons. He will
have the broad responsibility for the spiritual welfare, growth, and life of the church in all areas
including discipleship, evangelism, and equipping the congregation for service.
His objectives shall be to assure that the preaching and teaching ministry of the church feeds
the congregation to promote maturity and enhance the corporate worship of God, the knowledge of sound doctrine, the fellowship of believers, the equipping of believers for the ministry, the strengthening of the family, evangelizing to the unsaved, and involvement in community outreach.
The Pastor will work with the Deacons and Trustees to oversee the operation and ministry of the church. He must be committed to the vision, values, and beliefs of the church and should demonstrate evidence of a Christ-like attitude in words and actions. He is to seek to encourage
and equip us to grow in love, unity, and faithfulness to the Great Commission and the Great
We are trusting that God will provide a Senior Pastor who will lead the congregation after the
example of Jesus Christ in a selfless, servant spirit, faithful ministry of God’s Word. That he will
possess the spiritual qualifications as set forth in 1 Timothy 3, Titus 1 and 1 Peter 5:3.

Responsibilities & Duties:
Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church regards the ministry of God’s Word to be of highest
priority. The Senior Pastor will be expected to:
Preach and teach the Word of God (to which the majority of time should be devoted)
Teach an in-depth weekly Bible study with prayer
Work with the various auxiliaries and boards in planning and conducting worship service and other programs
Ensure that the Church is well led, cared for, and spiritually protected from false doctrines and teachings
Officiant of the Lord’s Supper and Baptisms
Officiate at special occasions such as weddings, funerals, dedication of children, etc.
Counsel with and assist in training Deacons for their responsibilities
Provide pastoral care along with the Deacons through visitation, counseling, and prayer
Provide Biblical counseling and minister to individuals and couples as needed
Assist auxiliary leaders in teaching children, youth, and adults in the Christian education
program (Sunday School) of the church
Hold office hours for accessibility to members of the congregation
Encourage the Church in every phase of its Christian Ministry (e.g. witnessing, visitation, Bible study, Missions, etc.)
Continue to grow spiritually and professionally by networking and participating in conferences and seminars
Display the fruits of the spirit of God in all that he does by God’s grace alone
To oversee the administration and management of all areas of the congregation’s ministry in consultation with the Deacons and Auxiliary Heads
To support and assist Auxiliary Heads that have primary responsibility in the areas of education, youth, children, and outreach
To build a sense of teamwork among church staff and hold necessary staff meetings to
coordinate the work of the church and facilitate communication
To work with the Trustees and Deacons to see that the facilities of the church are functional and in good repair
Perform outreach in the community
The candidate should be a man who is godly in character and integrity, emotionally stable and
balanced in life priorities, who will serve as an example of Christ and as a good role model to
the congregation. It is expected that the candidate will wholeheartedly share his commitment
to the Scriptures allowing it to permeate his lifestyle, his preaching, teaching, and overall
As the spiritual leader who will oversee the life and direction of the church, the Pastor shall
function under the Bylaws and Constitution of the Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church and
in collaboration with the Board of Deacons.
The Senior Pastor shall be accountable to the Board of Deacons and establish and communicate
(either verbally or written) his work objectives along with the scope and latitude of his decision
making and the discretion that he may use to carry out those objectives.
Education Preferences and Experience
Required: Licensed and ordained Baptist minister; strong communication skills both written and
oral. Preferred: Bachelor’s degree and completion of a Master’s degree in Divinity or equivalent from an accredited university; at least 3 or more years of pastoral experience and teaching.
Salary range: $40,000 – $49,999.
