    Job Description

    This minister will be under the supervision of the pastor, and primarily responsible for the development and promotion of the student ministry of the church. This position serves the entire church membership as a ministry function.

    Duties and Responsibilities of Student Minister 

    The Student Minister of East Side Baptist Church is primarily responsible for developing and expanding ministry to 7th – 12th graders through various avenues that support the vision and values of the church within the context of student ministry. The ultimate goal of this position is to lead students to become faithful followers of Christ, by leading them into a growing relationship with God, and teaching them how to lead others, while incorporating their families and other adults into the process.

    • Office
      • Plan activities that coordinate and share the mission/vision of ESBC.
      • Plan and execute biblically accurate, culturally relevant, and high-energy services for students that are Christ Centered.
      • Cast vision for student ministry and develop a yearly student ministry calendar. (including: teaching schedule, events/activities, retreats, camps, mission projects, etc.).
      • Recruit, enlist, and train volunteers.
      • Execute a strategy of large and small groups on Sunday mornings, and Wednesday evenings.
      • Manage student registration, program and security policies/practices in support of all student ministry activities.
      • Develop a yearly student ministry budget, to be approved by the finance team and to stay within budget by monitoring it monthly.
      • Maintain a student ministry presence in social media.
      • Maintain/develop a student ministry presence on the church website.
      • Function as a member of the pastoral staff as instructed by the pastor.
      • Maintain communication with church ministerial leadership, fulfilling duties requested such as weekly staff meetings and other duties relating to church ministry.
      • Maintain all aspects of the student gathering area (clean, neat and orderly) working in conjunction with the janitorial staff.
      • Communicate with the office by Wednesday for bulletin and by the 20th of each month for the Voice publication to post activities.
    • Leadership
      • Provide weekly/monthly times for meeting/training student leaders in the various ministry groups such as (Praise team/Band, Tech and Media team, Mission/Service teams, Church/Greeting team, etc.).
      • Provide adult leaders opportunities, training & resources to teach and lead small groups effectively.
      • Communicate expectations and requirements (such as background checks) of adult leaders serving within the student ministry.
    • Students
      • Develop and disciple a group of student leaders (teach students disciples to make student disciples).
      • Educate, encourage and facilitate students to participate in evangelical and mission outreach opportunities.
      • Communicate info and announcements on large group formats through text messaging/email formats.
      • Provide “safe” and friendly environments and opportunities for students to experience, explore, ask questions about, and grow in their faith through the various small groups/gatherings.
      • Participate in outreach ministries.
      • Maintain a pulse on the community and culture within the students’ world.
      • Attend students school and community related student events such as sports, band, etc.
    • Parents
      • Design, plan and conduct periodic student-parent meetings in order to engage and update families about ministry plans, events and cultural shifts.
      • Recruit and enlist parents to be involved in student ministry in areas of hosting, chaperoning, driving and being a part of the youth ministry.
      • Partner with parents toward helping them to spiritually lead their families; such as (training, providing resources, phone conversations and family counseling, etc.).
    • Community
      • Be an active presence in local schools (visiting lunches, clubs, concerts and sporting events, etc.).
      • Explore avenues for partnering with various community entities/youth groups and provide community ministry opportunities.
      • Personal
        • Maintain a healthy personal spiritual life (prayer, worship, scripture application, etc.).
        • Be subject to accountability (of your personal choosing).
        • Be subject to mentorship (of your personal choosing).
        • Maintain a life of learning (reading books, listening to podcasts, and/or attending conferences on your area of ministry).
        • Develop relationships with area student pastors.
        • Be subject to yearly/bi-yearly evaluations under the supervision of the pastor.
        • Be open to being assigned other duties by the pastor.
