Job Description: Minister to Youth
Synopsis: The Minister to Youth is a full time position working with overarching philosophy of a family supportive approach. Primary ministry is to youth (grades 7-12) and in a staff support role to children and preschool programming. The Minister to Youth will also be staff support to the special needs ministry and have various responsibilities as part of the church ministry staff.
Planning: Develop a yearly calendar of youth programs and events. Implement plans by ordering needed materials, scheduling speakers, handling setup details for events, etc. Meet with parents to communicate about the youth ministry calendar, volunteer needs, parental concerns, etc. Develop effective publicity for youth activities through the church newsletter, bulletin, mailings, and media.
Fellowship: Cultivate personal relationships with all youth/parents. This includes activities outside of Wednesday and Sunday nights e.g. home visits, special need situations, organized retreats, mission events, camps, etc.
Instruction: Prepare for/carry out Wednesday and Sunday night programs. Coordinate with Youth Sunday school teachers to locate all necessary resources to meet the needs of youth. Attend worship services on Sunday morning.
Mission/Service: Plan for/carry out mission trips/opportunities. Offer service opportunities throughout the year to involve youth in ministering to others within and outside the church.
Children and Preschool:
To serve as the staff resource person for the needs of the preschool and children’s programming and special events and to help facilitate the material and calendaring needs of these ministries; working with the communication mechanisms already in place. The Minister to Youth will work with the Pastor and church staff in developing an overarching philosophy of education and parental support for ages in preschool developing into children and eventually into youth.
Special Needs Ministry:
Be the staff liaison to the Special Needs Committee. Help to represent their needs and calendaring to the church staff and Church Council.
Church Ministry Staff:
Have a regular hospital day to visit members in local hospitals. Participate in staff meetings and monthly Church Council meetings. Other pastoral ministries as reasonably requested by the Pastor.
– A passion for the Lord and His Church, and a love for children and youth.
– 3+ years of experience in student ministry
– Undergraduate degree required; Seminary is a plus
– A desire to reach the community
– Able to use technology easily
