    Job Overview

    City Church is a multi-ethnic, multi-economic, multi-generational church in Fort Wayne, Indiana seeking to hire a Youth and Young Adult Director (middle school, high school and young adults) to our growing staff. The role is to oversee the youth and young adult ministry strategy of City Church under the direction and leadership of the Executive Discipleship Pastor. This will require a firm grasp of the beliefs, values and strategy of City Church and the ability to align key volunteer teams with its mission, vision and values. He or she also partners with parents/guardians to disciple their children.

    Job Description

    The Youth and Young Adult Director will be responsible for the following:

    1. Modeling Biblical Priorities

    Responsible for upholding Biblical priorities and core values of City Church. He or she should represent a growing personal relationship with Christ. The Youth and Young Director models a strong relationship with his or her spouse (if married) and children (if applicable). The Youth and Young Director strives to fulfill his or her purpose in life and ministry while demonstrating integrity in words, relationships and actions.

    These objectives are accomplished by:

    • Committing to a daily quiet-time with God.
    • Participating in a City Church small group on a regular basis.
    • Setting appropriate boundaries to protect character and integrity.
    • Adhering to and encompassing the qualities and characteristics required of City Church employees, as defined by the Staff Handbook.
    1. Oversight and Execution of Youth Ministry

    Responsible for creating programs that provide engaging experiences and life-changing environments for students in middle school and high school by:

    • Providing insight and direction for big picture programming and creative planning processes (camps, conferences, service projects, activities, etc.).
    • Leading and organizing effective weekly youth gatherings implementing biblical teaching, worship, fellowship, discipleship, and ministry opportunities.
    • Fostering an environment where students feel connected to each other as a church family and where each student is valued.
    • Designing student outreach efforts at City Church.
    • Oversight and execution of small groups as outlined below.
    1. Partnering with Parents of the Youth Ministry

    Responsible for partnering with parents/guardians and equipping them to get connected to City Church and lead their student to know Christ and follow Him.

    • Creating and continuously improving follow-up methods to ensure that new families and their students are plugged in to City Church.
    • Implementing a strategy to equip parents to help their students take their next steps toward Christ, focused on what happens outside of church walls.
    • Keeping parents and students informed of ongoing activities through printed promotions, verbal announcements, social media, web page information, marketing, etc.
    1. Leadership of Volunteer Teams for the Youth Ministry

    Success in this role will be best accomplished by prioritizing an investment in ministry leaders who, in turn, influence students. The Youth and Young Director is responsible for creating an environment that attracts, develops and empowers the leaders providing ministry programming to all students by:

    • Communicating a clear vision and defined ministry wins for volunteer teams on a regular basis.
    • Building systems and structures that lead people from being spectators to volunteers. Provide ongoing recruitment for volunteer staff.
    • Overseeing safety and security systems for students (e.g. background checks, safety and security procedures, trauma informed care, sexual abuse training, etc.)
    • Championing the student ministry leadership development strategy.
    • Providing volunteer teams with current student ministry best practices.
    • Providing intentional opportunities to show appreciation to volunteers.
    • Developing, submitting and managing budget forecasts and expenses.
    1. Oversight and Execution of Young Adult Ministry

    Responsible for creating programs that provide engaging experiences and life-changing environments for young adults by:

    • Providing insight and direction for big picture programming and creative planning processes (camps, conferences, service projects, activities, etc.).
    • Oversight and execution of small groups as outlined below.
    1. Oversight and Execution of Small Groups (Youth and Young Adult)

    Designs practical onramps and systems to help students and young adults move from visiting to belonging and growing by:

    • Overseeing information and tracking of small group participants and leaders.
    • Actively encouraging small group leaders to connect with students or young adults during the week (visiting, coaching, discipling, etc.).
    • Offering small group leader’s curriculum, coaching materials and creative approaches to small group ministry.
