    Job Description

    The Youth Minister provides leadership for middle and high school youth ministry, organizing and overseeing all curriculum, programs, and related activities, growing the reach of the ministry beyond the church walls. S/he is responsible for recruiting and developing an engaged team of volunteer leaders, infusing passion and vision for the ministry. S/he fosters strong connections with our young people for mentoring and discipleship, maintaining effective communication with parents and church leadership, and helping our parish live out our mission to become whole-life disciples who learn to be with, become like, and live like Jesus in their Monday through Saturday lives.

    Position Responsibilities:

    Weekly Time Commitment (hrs/wk)
    Wednesday Youth Group (3-6, including prep), Events (2-4), Mentorship (3-6), Staff Meetings/Administration (2-4)

    Team Development
    Recruit and coordinate adult lay leaders to help develop strategies and activities, interact with students, and contribute to the spiritual growth and development of parish youth.
    Identify leadership potential in the young people and provide opportunities for leadership growth.
    Create and encourage a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for everyone from the church and the community.
    Foster a team spirit with other church staff, the Vestry, and parents as applicable.

    Program Development
    Develop a fun, challenging, Scripturally-based Wednesday evening youth program oriented toward whole-life discipleship.
    Plan and lead other worship, fellowship, discipleship, and outreach events, including retreats and mission trips, integrating youth into the wider life of the church.

    Mentoring and Discipleship
    Foster age-appropriate mentoring through both small- and large-group interactions.
    Link youth with strong Christian leaders for discipleship and life coaching.
    Meet and counsel individual students and peer groups.
    Have a consistent presence in the lives of youth at schools, sporting activities, other events, and social media.

    Administrative Management
    Operate programs within acceptable budget parameters, adhering to financial policies, procedures, and practices.
    Coordinate with the Communications Director as needed for all communication needs.
    Conduct or contribute to various levels of staff meetings.
    Develop ways to help reach out, track, and communicate with newcomers, including utilization of church management software.
    Follow diocesan safety guidelines and ensure safe practices in all youth activities.

    Essential Knowledge and Skills
    Previous youth ministry experience and outstanding people skills, especially with youth.
    Strong leadership and staff development skills.
    Ability to teach Scripture and biblical concepts within an age-appropriate setting.                                                                                                                      Strong organizational ability, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    Ability to prioritize multiple projects and activities while meeting deadlines.
    Personal initiative; creativity; and innovative thinking.
    Skills in developing and implementing ministry strategies for the personal growth and development of young people.
    Ability to lead or foster worship and musical praise within groups.
    Wisdom to know how and when to set boundaries to protect individuals and the integrity of programs and Christ Church.

    Personal Qualifications:
    Christ-centered spiritual maturity and demonstrated practice being with, becoming like, and living like Jesus.
    Professional and pleasant attitude.
    Teachable nature and humility balanced with confidence and assertiveness.
    Ability to pass background checks.

    Education or Formal Training:
    Minimum Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience); Master’s degree (or pursuit thereof) preferred.

    Work Environment/Physical Activities:
    Church environment the majority of time; plethora of outdoor activities throughout the year.
