    Job Description

    Principal Role:

    The role of the Youth Pastor is to lead a growing Youth Ministry, providing Christ-centered, enthusiastic leadership to recruit, support, and maintain participation of Youth. The Youth Pastor will collaborate with the Pastor and Ministry teams, and provide leadership to recruit, train and support volunteers.

    Job Description:

    This year-round position is defined as salary, restricted part time at an average fifteen (15) to twenty-five (25) working hours per week. Position is eligible for pre-approved overtime (time and ½ pay) beginning at forty (40) or more working hours per pay week. Expectation of attendance is Sunday worship services, Youth Sunday School, Small Groups, weekly group meetings, and other special events including (but not limited to) Summer Camp, Retreats, and Mission Trips. The work is done cooperatively, especially with the Pastor. As part of the Leadership of the Church, the Youth Pastor is expected to advocate for the Youth Ministry.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Function as the spiritual and executive leader of Friendship Baptist’s Youth Program encompassing grades six (6) to twelve (12) and college-age youth
    • Assess and select appropriate teaching materials and curriculum
    • Provide Bible-based instruction, guidance and mentorship to teenagers and college-age youth
    • Lead at least two annual weekend retreats and at least one annual summer camp experience, if feasible
    • Provide opportunities to execute missions and learn about ways in which Youth and college-age youth can serve the church (possibly multiple events each year)
    • Provide support for annual Vacation Bible School/Sports Camp programming
    • Provide support and recruit volunteers for annual Fall Festival
    • Teach Sunday School, Small Groups and weekly group meetings
    • Recruit and train adults to be Sunday School Teachers, Small Group Leaders and volunteers
    • Lead an annual internship program to introduce college-age youth students into Ministry service if the annual Church budget allows
    • Provide outreach, missions, and fellowship opportunities to the Youth and college-age youth
    • Provide support and guidance to parents

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Manage and update the Youth & college-age youth website pages
    • Provide reporting to the quarterly business meetings
    • Provide written articles to add to monthly newsletters and bulletins
    • Prepare a sermon for the congregation in the absence of the Pastor as well as when called upon
    • Attend Church Council and Church Staff meetings when feasible
    • Visiting those of the congregation in the hospital or sick/distressed as needed, especially for Youth and college-age youth
    • Attend funerals and counsel families, as needed
    • Manage, design, and decorate the Youth rooms to keep setting fresh and welcoming
    • Teach small group studies on parenting teens

    Accountability:

    The Youth Pastor is accountable to the Pastor and Personnel Committee. This individual will need to notify the Pastor and Personnel Committee a minimum of fourteen (14) calendar days prior to planned absences (preferably as soon as possible) to allow for scheduling of a substitute for Youth Ministry leadership. This excludes personal and family emergencies.

    An annual performance review will be done by the Pastor in December of each year.

    Position Requirements:

    • Agreement and observance of the Southern Baptist faith and message
    • Born again Christian, servant-hearted, with a genuine passion for Youth Ministry and biblical education
    • Bachelor’s degree in theology, biblical studies or Youth Ministry or equivalent education of Youth ministries and biblical studies
    • Ability to take direction and work as a team member
    • Youth Ministry or Children’s Ministry experience
    • Proficient understanding of challenges and needs of young people
    • Basic knowledge using social media platforms
    • Basic knowledge using Microsoft Office suite products (Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel)
    • Basic knowledge using Google suite products (Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Meets)
    • Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Ability to lead by example
