Metropolitan Baptist Church is a small, reformed, multi-ethnic church located in southern Brooklyn, NY. We are seeking a full-time Executive Pastor, with urban/multi-ethnic ministry experience, to Shepherd the English congregation and oversee our Spanish and Hindi church plants. January start date, pending.

Position qualifications:

Prerequisites A Godly man who has been called to be a pastor not aspires to be a pastor, mature in the faith (Job 31, Eph. 4:11-12, Jm. 3:1) • Minimum educational level is a BA degree or attended seminary • Be ordained (or in the process of becoming ordained) • Have a mix of biblical studies education and ministry experience, preferably urban/multi-ethnic • Embodies the biblical characteristics of a Pastor laid out in 1 Tim. 3:1-13 and Tit. 1: 6-9 • Biblically and theologically literate (Jer. 3:15, Tit. 2:1, 2 Tim. 4:2, Eph. 6: 13-17) • Has an active and growing relationship with God through a consistent prayer life (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, Hebrews 4:16, Ephesians 6:18) • Servant leader who is approachable to all (1 Pt. 5:1-3, Ph. 3:17) • A man of integrity, accountable to God, his church leadership and congregation • If married, must be a biblical husband of a woman called to be a pastor’s wife (Eph. 5: 22-33) • Agrees with the MBC Church Constitution and Doctrinal Statement. Responsibilities To help MBC fulfill its purpose statements of creating a passionate pursuit of God’s glory that leads to: • Active worship • Profound fellowship • Hungering discipleship • Purposeful ministry • Enthusiastic spreading of the good news To preach, teach, train, and shepherd the multiethnic English congregation by: • Sharing the inerrant word of God in an understandable way that challenges, promote spiritual growth, and convicts the congregation o Weekly minimum of Sunday mornings and Wednesday at midweek • Mentoring and guiding the church leadership, including elders, deacons, and deaconesses in order to provide and encourage spiritual growth in congregants • Emboldening church leadership to facilitate community outreach to bring people to a saving relationship with Christ in order to make disciples who disciple • Fostering support of missions locally, nationally, and internationally through prayer and finances, as a supporting or sending church for long-term or short-term projects • Performing special services and the ordinances of baptism and communion • Being available for biblically-based counseling and visitation of church members as needed To oversee and guide the non-English congregation plants by: • Mentoring the pastors • Mediating issues (between the congregations and if necessary, within a congregation) • Creating a cohesive environment between the congregations • Ensuring preaching of the Gospel that’s in line with the Bible and the doctrinal statement of MBC As God guides and opportunities avail, prayerfully plant additional congregations to expand the gospel’s reach in South Brooklyn by: • Working alongside MNYBA, BCNY, and NAMB-SEND for the funding, pastoral provision, and training as needed • Overseeing periodic community surveys to determine changing ethnic/language needs Benefits: Full-time salary package including 3 bdrm, 1100 sq ft parsonage located behind the church, Vacation time, and access to Brooklyn’s famous pizza/bagels.
