    Job Description

    Purpose of the Position:
    We want our people in Community Groups because we believe that life change happens best as people experience the gospel in a community of redemptive relationships. Are you the type who loves meeting people in the lobby and connecting them to the community of God’s people? Do you carry a notecard around so you can write down the names of people you meet on a Sunday? Do you dream about seeing people mature in the gospel and grow as leaders in the church? At Covenant Life by connecting people to Christ, to one another and to service for God’s kingdom. The Director (or Pastor) of Small Groups and Discipleship (DSG) will be a primary part of connecting people to groups where they can grow in grace.

    1. Connecting to Groups: Covenant Life Church believes that life change happens best as people experience the gospel in community. The      DSG will work to connect people to one another and to the church. Tasks include (but are not limited to):
    o Oversee relationship-forward spaces (such as Community Groups) and content forward spaces (such as Bible studies), including                   help start new ones and encourage leaders of groups
    o Look for new people (and established people) to connect to groups where they can experience community with God’s people
    o Model for the congregation how to engage and to draw others into groups
    o Follow up with people after they visit a group to see if it is a fit or to recommend a different group for them to visit
    o Be in and part of the Sarasota community in a way that aligns with personal gifts and passions so as to meet new people and share               the gospel with the lost
    2. Discipleship: The DSG will lead the adult discipleship initiatives of the church. Tasks include (but are not limited to):
    o Schedule Discipleship Classes (and teach at least once/year) for edification and growth of the congregation
    o Review materials and curriculum for alignment with our Reformed doctrine and our particular mission and vision as a church
    o Equip and encourage the men’s ministry team, including serving as the staff liaison to the team
    3. Leadership Development: Part of maturing disciples is equipping them to lead and serve. The DGE will relationally engage with people in      the congregation and equip them to lead in the various ministries of the church. Tasks include (but are not limited to):
    o Encourage, equip and appreciate group leaders as they seek to make disciples
    o Identify, recruit and train potential future group leaders
    o Model a gospel-centered and gospel-fueled approach to leading and discipling

    Reports to: Executive Pastor (XP)

    Supervises:  Women’s Ministry Coordinator (WMC)

    Working Conditions:
    1. Part Time: 25 hours per week
    2. Office Hours: Flexible hours will schedule to be coordinated with XP and it is understood this will include some evening and weekend hours as required by ministry opportunities.

    Expectations & Qualifications:
    1. Ordination: Ordained in the Presbyterian Church in America is not required but is welcome.
    2. Character: The DSG must be deeply committed to Christ and exhibit an ongoing growth in spiritual maturity and godliness.
    3. Theological/Biblical Commitments: Committed to a Reformed view of the Scriptures.
    4. Experience: Proven experience discipling fellow believers to maturity in the gospel and developing leaders.
    5. Membership: The DSG must be (or become) a member of Covenant Life Church. If ordained, membership is required in the Suncoast Florida Presbytery of the PCA. Under Biblical authority, the DSG must demonstrate joyful submission to the elders and staff.
    6. Passions: The DSG must model a passion for and skill in connecting people to the church and to one another.
