Position Summary: 

Under the direction of the Lead Pastor, Personnel Committee, and in connection with the church’s mission, the 9 AM Worship Leader will lead worship in the 9 AM service and oversee the choir. This service is a blended service. The overall goal is to invite the family at First Baptist Grain Valley to worship God through music.

Overall Qualifications:

1.     Be a born again believer and baptized by immersion.

2.     Must strive to walk in holiness, reflect the person of Christ, and be gospel-centered.

3.     Be in agreement with the Baptist Faith and Message.

4.     Become a member of First Baptist Church Grain Valley and, as much as possible, be integrated into the life of the church.

5.     Have a music degree or sufficient experience.

6.     Must be able to lead in worship, read music, and work with people.

Specific Duties in relation to music:

1.     Lead the 9 AM worship service on Sunday morning. This service is a blended service which is a mixture of familiar hymns and contemporary songs.

a.     Plan the 9 AM worship service.

b.     Produce PowerPoint music slides for Sunday worship.

c.     Coordinate with the church office, pianist, choir, and tech team.

d.     Plan regular choir specials, ensembles, and soloists to sing Sunday mornings (for example: the choir should sing every 4-6 weeks).

2.     Lead the sanctuary choir

a.     Build the choir program by investing in the current program and finding new choir members.

b.     Oversee choir practice (Sundays, 5 PM).

c.     Develop choir cantatas (generally one per year).

d.     Plan and promote fellowships within the music ministry.

3.     Be available to help with the planning and organization of special services (For example, Christmas Eve).

4.     Oversee the music budget.

Compensation:

The 9 AM Worship Leader is a part-time (15-20 hours per week), salaried position with an agreed upon annual salary set by the Personnel Committee in conjunction with the Budget Committee and approved by the church.
