    DIRECTOR OF PRESCHOOL AND CHILDREN

     JOB DESCRIPTION:

    Function:  To develop and execute a comprehensive program of Christian development and education for preschool aged children and school aged children up to the 6th grade.  Consult with other staff and program leaders concerning activities in their areas when preschoolers and children of the church are involved.

    Qualifications:  Familiarity with and experienced in leading a variety of types of programs for the preschooler and for the children.  Ability to plan, organize, train, and supervise program and event leaders.  Must have training or experience in spiritual, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of the preschool child and children.  Must have the ability to provide Christian counseling to both parent and child on contemporary issues.  A degree in the teaching field from an accredited college or university is preferred.

    Workday:  Workday will include the established office hours of 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with a scheduled lunch break taken in cooperation with other staff members.  Within a 7 day workweek, the employee will have Saturday as a normal day off.  As Sunday is considered a normal workday, a second day off shall be scheduled by church leadership.  If the position is filled as a part-time position of approximately 20 hours per week, hours will be developed as determined by the Associate Pastor.

    Supervisor:  the Director of Preschool and Children is under the direct supervision of the Associate Pastor and responsible to the Personnel Committee.

    Responsibilities:

    1. Survey the needs and consider realistically the areas of concern to be included in a ministry to preschool children and children; advise the Minister of Education of optimal ministry options.
    2. Work with other program leaders and directors in developing a comprehensive program of spiritual, educational, physical, and emotional development for the child and their parents or guardians.
    3. Plan, coordinate, conduct and evaluate special events such as camps, retreats, banquets, fellowships, etc.; direct the planning and evaluation of an annual Vacation Bible School.
    4. Conduct special training programs for children’s workers in compliance with the Protection Policies outlined in the Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual involving a comprehensive program of child safety and child abuse awareness, prevention and action. Comply with all applicable guidelines and laws.
    5. Advise in the use of program materials, equipment, supplies, and space by preschool and children groups in all church program organizations; make budget recommendations for a viable preschool and children’s ministry.
    6. Keep informed of new trends in Christian children’s ministry; seek to enrich all facets of ministry to preschoolers and children.
    7. Lead the recruitment, training, and allocation of human resources in cooperation with the Nominating Committee for an efficient ministry to preschoolers and children of the church and community.
    8. Plan, conduct, and evaluate a ministry of visitation by preschool and children’s department leadership.
    9. Cooperate with the church librarian in the planning, organization, and evaluation of children’s resource learning center and library.
    10. Assist in the enlistment and training of extended session and salaried preschool workers; administer and supervise preschool and nursery workers.
    11. Plan, organize, conduct, and evaluate a children’s Sunday morning worship experience.
    12. Conduct systematic and periodic safety and cleanliness inspections of all spaces, equipment, and personnel associated with the preschool ministry.
    13. Ensure that standards of personal hygiene of the personnel and volunteers will be maintained.
    14. See that background checks are administered on all personnel involved in this ministry, including volunteer and staff personnel.
    15. Perform related duties as assigned by the Associate Pastor and the Senior Pastor.
