    Job Title:                            Minister of Children and Families

    Reports to:                         Senior Pastor

    FLSA Status:                      Exempt

    Full-time/Part-time:           15 hours

    Pay Scale: $18-$20 per hour depending upon relevant experience.

    SUMMARY

    The Minister of Children and Families is responsible for overseeing the spiritual formation of children and families at Hillcrest United Methodist Church. Children and families spans from birth through high school. A successful Minister of Children and Families at Hillcrest United Methodist Church is organized, relatable and vested in designing diverse worship experiences so families can grow in their faith, confirm their hope in Christ, and be perfected in love with God and neighbor.

    STUDENT MINISTRIES: RELATIONSHIP AND ACCOUNTABILITY

    The Minister of Children and Families is accountable to the Senior Pastor in matters pertaining to his/her responsibilities at Hillcrest United Methodist Church. Job performance, salary, and benefits are reviewed annually by the Staff Parish Relations Committee in consultation with the Senior Pastor.

    WEEKLY & ONGOING MINISTRY SUPPORT:

    The Minister of Children and Families will be supported by both staff and lay leaders of the Hillcrest UMC. The Minister of Children and Families shall be supported by the chair of Faith Formation on the HUMC One Board.

    MINISTRY RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Minister of Children and Families is responsible for:

    • Welcoming and including children and youth in the ministry life of the church.
    • Spiritual formation and care for infants, preschool age, elementary age, and middle and high school ages.
    • Nurturing community and strengthening relationships among the children, youth, and adults.

    TASKS:

    • Collaborate with the Pastor to plan and lead worship for the week
    • Provide Operations Manager with information that needs to be included in the daily email.
    • Ensure Safe Sanctuary Policies are followed with regard to all events.
    • Oversee implementation of Sunday morning programs, including curriculum selection, teacher recruitment and training, and evaluation of children’s Sunday School and Children’s Church.
    • Coordinate, develop and oversee a yearly budget for student ministries
    • In consultation with staff and lay leaders, create and oversee Ministry area Calendar including family events corresponding with the church and school calendar such as In consultation with staff and lay leaders, create and oversee Ministry area Calendar including family events corresponding with the church and school calendar such as Vacation Bible School, Trunk or Treat, Easter Egg Hunt, Back to School Event, Birthday Party for Jesus, Confirmation, Conference Events, and other celebrations in life of the students as needed.
    • Cultivate Hillcrest UMC’s partnership with Crievewood UMC, South End UMC, and Mt. Pisgah UMC in some of our Children and Family Ministries and events.

    SUPERVISE:

    • Student Ministry lay leaders and childcare providers

    COMMUNICATION WITH:

    • the parents of children, youth, and their families all the pertinent information and resources needed for all gatherings and events.
    • Ministry area volunteers with what is happening and what is expected of them.

    RECRUIT:

    • Student Ministry volunteers to lead — Sunday School, Teach Children’s Church, Provide Child Care, Participate in events.
    • qualified lay leaders to whom you can delegate and entrust ministry responsibilities

    SCHEDULE:

    • Children and Families Ministry volunteers in line with the needs of the ministry and Nursery staffing through Childcare Solutions.
    • In consultation with Operations Manager reserve space that is shared by other groups, both inside and outside the church.

    • Able to drive youth to activities in the church van or recruit a volunteer; must be able to lift and/or move up to 15 pounds
