    Job Description

    Worship Director

    Athens is now at a point to invert more heavily in our worship ministry and is looking add a staff position of Worship Director to our team. This role would lead the congregation in singing and worship in a musically rich, Biblically sound and engaging. We aim to incorporate the best of hymns and contemporary songs, experiencing the range of high and low energy and fast and slow pace, throughout our worship service. The person in this role would have a heavy hand in shaping the music philosophies and culture of this young and developing church. Included under their oversight would be various volunteers and volunteer team that come together to execute a well-run worship service.

    Responsibilities
    • Shepherd, grow and provide leadership for an effective music ministry that is consistent with Athens’ doctrine, values, and vision.
    • Develop systems that foster a healthy, God-honoring worship ministry culture.
    • Plan and lead the weekly corporate worship service, working under the direction of and in collaboration with, the Lead Pastor.
    • Provide direction for and work in collaboration with the Audio/Visual teams.
    • Recruit, develop, train, and encourage the music volunteer team.
    • Oversee the collaborative design of seasonal events (Christmas, Easter) and special worship services.
    • Schedule musicians and volunteers, lead regular rehearsals, and provide timely musical support and clear communication.
    • Develop current musicians and volunteers through ongoing training, feedback, mentoring, and encouragement.
    • Humbly serve where needed alongside staff and leadership.

    What you bring
    The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate:
    • A vibrant personal relationship with Jesus and possesses general character qualities in line with the description of deacons found in 1 Timothy 3
    • Excitement for and commitment to Athens’ vision, values, and culture
    • Proficiency with Planning Center and ProPresenter preferred
    • Vocal ability and mastery of a lead instrument such as guitar or piano
    • A desire to raise up a team of musicians to use their gifts, instead of being a one-person-focused performance
    • Strives to lead worship by worshipping
    • A desire for a mixture of low church (authenticity, casual communication style) and high church (liturgies, confessions, call and response, weekly communion) elements
    • Excited to craft an overall worship service that connects with non-Christians (we say a service to them should be engaging, understandable, but slightly strange)
    • Being a teachable team player
