I recently wrote an article outlining the unique gifts and abilities that introverts bring to ministry. It seems only right that now I acknowledge the wonderful contributions that our extroverted brothers and sisters have to offer in the realm of ministry as well. While introverts and extroverts can be quite different from one another, we serve the same God for the same purpose and all gifts are important because they are from Him.

Extroverts are a powerful presence in ministry. They tend to connect easily with people and get things done! They are a force to be reckoned with! Below are some traits that allow extroverts to make a powerful impact in the ministries they work for.

  • Connection

Extroverts are good at connecting with people both on a casual level and on a more personal level. They make great greeters when new people come to church or small group leaders that host Bible studies in their homes. Connecting with others can make others feel welcome and interested in a church or in the Gospel. This ability to connect is a gift that allows extroverts to help bring new people into the church.

  • Gifted Speakers

While introverts can also be gifted speakers, it is often a quality found in extroverts. Extroverts do not mind speaking their mind. This allows them to share truth from the pulpit without fear or shame. The world is in need of Truth, and this ability to speak it is valuable. It also helps them fulfill roles that would terrify many introverts such as praying in front of the congregation, making announcements, speaking, or leading a deacon’s meeting.

  •  Risk-Takers

Extroverts can be risk-takers which can prove beneficial in helping a church or ministry move forward with new ideas and initiatives. While introverts may feel the need to mull over change, extroverts are willing to try! The church must change and adapt over time, not in its teaching, but in its methods to reach out to others. Extroverts ensure that things do not stay stagnant for too long!

  • Less Fearful of Confrontation

While it may not be true of every extrovert, as a whole, extroverts may be less fearful of confrontation. This is important in a church or ministry because often issues may go unaddressed for fear of disrupting the status quo or hurting someone’s feelings. The ability to tackle an issue head on allows issues to be resolved so that healing can begin. Jesus teaches us to be unafraid, and this is a powerful testimony to standing strong for what is true and noble and right.

  • Decision Makers

Extroverts tend to be good decision-makers. This allows things to get done in a timely manner when others in the church may be on the fence. Having a person who is able to make a decision when the circumstance calls for it prevents a church from getting stuck for lack of knowing where to go next. As a person who is extremely indecisive, I envy this ability!

As Scripture reminds us, it takes many types of Christians to fulfill the mission of the church. I am so grateful that God has placed both introverts and extroverts in ministry. It makes the church an exciting and diverse place to be!
