    Job Description

    ARKLAND BAPTIST CHURCH is a sixty-year-old Southern Baptist church in the Southeast section of Winter Haven, Florida. Parkland is a small church with a desire for growth, has a well-known daily preschool on campus, and has a heart for missions. The church is currently seeking candidates for the Lead Pastor position.

    LEAD PASTOR

    Principle Function:  The lead pastor is responsible for providing spiritual and administrative leadership for the church using his skills, being led by God’s call upon his ministry, and in proclamation and pastoral care in meeting the needs in the church and community as a New Testament church.

    Qualifications:  The lead pastor must be an ordained Southern Baptist minister. He shall have a personal salvation experience and a testimony which can be freely shared leading others to the knowledge of salvation. He shall have the assurance of the infallibility of the Word as well as its authority being inspired by God Himself by practicing through personal example and exemplifying that authority in the administration through the church. The pastor shall be the spiritual leader of the congregation.

    Duties and Responsibilities:   

    • Preach the Word in all worship services as lead by the Holy Spirit and plan to have this responsibility filled in his absence.
    • Proclaim the Gospel and equip the church members to witness and proclaim the Gospel in the church and community.
    • Care for people and lead church members to care for others in the church and community.
    • Provide administrative leadership to lead the church in attaining the divine mission as described in the Bible.
    • Provide leadership for congregational services and lead in conducting the church ordinances (Lord’s Supper and baptism). Plan, coordinate, and evaluate congregational services.
    • Conduct counseling sessions (as qualified), wedding ceremonies, and funerals for the membership and prospective members at his discretion.
    • Work with church staff, church officers, committees, and deacons in their training and performance of their responsibilities of proclaiming, caring, and building up of families and the church fellowship.
    • Serve as chairman of the church council and provide administrative leadership for the total church program.
    • Advise on the selection of all staff members. Supervise all staff, serve as head administrator of the church, and provide for staff training and development.
    • Serve in an advising role over Parkland Preschool, participate in Preschool Board and programming.
    • Give leadership and participate in church in-reach and outreach opportunities, having a vision for growth of the church. Visit members and prospects.
    • Keep informed on methods, materials, promotion, and administration by attending training sessions provided by our association and state and national conventions. Other conferences, events, or seminars may be added as deemed necessary by lead pastor.
    • Cooperate with associational, state, and denominational leaders in matters of mutual interest and concern. Keep the church informed of denominational developments. Represent church in civic matters.
    • Support the mission of the Southern Baptist Convention and the “Baptist Faith and Message.”

    Supervision:  Work will be performed under the supervision of the personnel committee. Annual evaluation of job performance by the personnel committee will be conducted using this job description as the criteria.
