    Job Description

    Job Description

St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church of Ridgewood is seeking a full-time, ordained (or soon-to-be ordained) priest to join the parish staff and focus on church growth in three areas: Formation for Adults (growth in faith), Evangelism/Communications (growth in church membership), and Outreach (growth in the community and world).

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    Formation for Adults:
The parishioners at St. Elizabeth’s are eager to grow and deepen their faith in Jesus outside of worship services. The Assistant Rector for Church Growth will work with the Rector to organize and lead classes, workshops, and seasonal retreats on Sundays and throughout the week. Formation opportunities should be grounded in the Gospel, thought-provoking, and engaging. Like many other aspects of ministry, we seek to use a hybrid approach (in-person and online) to adult Christian formation whenever possible.

    Evangelism/Communications:
The Assistant Rector for Church Growth will work with the Rector, Communications Coordinator, and members of the Parish Vitality Committee to invite, welcome, and connect the unchurched and formerly churched in Ridgewood and the surrounding villages. Bergen County, NJ is situated just outside of New York City. During and after the COVID-19 pandemic there has been an enormous influx of new residents moving into Ridgewood and the surrounding villages. The Assistant Rector for Church Growth will help us to be disciples who make disciples by sharing the Good News with those who don’t yet know about St. Elizabeth’s Church and her mission and ministries.

    Outreach:
The Assistant Rector for Church Growth will work with the parish Outreach Committee to grow our relationships with partner organizations and ministries beyond the walls of St. Elizabeth’s. The Assistant will also recruit parishioners to serve the community by raising up the ongoing opportunities to minister to “the least of these” in our village, state, and world.

    Other duties as assigned:
The Assistant Rector for Church Growth will share in leading services, preaching, administering the sacraments, pastoral care, as well as any other duties as assigned by the Rector.

    OVERSIGHT
The Assistant Rector for Church Growth will report directly to the Rector, and will work closely with him to articulate St. Elizabeth’s vision for church growth.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
    – A deep and articulate faith in Jesus Christ
    – A strong passion for the Christian faith and familiarity with the Episcopal/Anglican tradition
    – An ordained priest (or transitional deacon) in good standing in the Episcopal Church
    – A good humored individual who wants to work collaboratively with other church colleagues
    – A person who seeks to build relationships with parishioners to learn their self-interests
    – Experience creating and leading Christian formation programs
    – Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
    – A self-starter who is innovative, able to take initiative, and think imaginatively
    – Experience recruiting, working with, and supporting volunteers
    – Good communication skills
    – Master of Divinity (or equivalent) degree

    COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The Assistant Rector for Church is a full-time, salaried position with benefits, to include: health insurance, pension contributions, a generous continuing education, hospitality allowance, and amount of vacation time. Most of all, the Assistant will work alongside a supportive staff, vestry, and parish who will want you to thrive in this position as you shepherd them in their relationship with Jesus Christ.

    Application Process

Interested applicants can send resumes with at least three references and OTM profiles to the Rector, the Rev. Andy Olivo by email. Applications will be considered upon arrival. Appointment will be contingent on consent from the Bishop of the Diocese of Newark and completion of a background check. Recurring certification in the prevention of child sexual abuse and anti-racism training will be mandatory.
