    Job Description

    PURPOSE OF POSITION
    The role of the Director of Youth Ministry is to model a commitment to Jesus and Biblical knowledge while shepherding the spiritual formation of middle and high school students through engaging and transformative discipleship initiatives. This includes guiding them in pivotal faith milestones, nurturing a holistic Christian education, and facilitating spiritual retreats. The aim is to cultivate a dynamic and authentic faith journey for both youth and their families. The Director will also model and foster a lifestyle of integrity, humility, and evangelism that glorifies God and prompts a commitment to service. Collaborating in intergenerational ministry the Director will work alongside other church leaders to build a faith that transcends age, uniting the entire church community.

    ACCOUNTABILITY
    The Director of Youth Ministry reports to and receives regular work assignments from the Sr. Pastor and is accountable to the Board of Elders (Session).

    WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
    This person directly oversees the work of volunteers that are involved with youth ministry and works in a cooperative and collegial way with the Elder for Youth Ministry and all staff.

    RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Create regular programs that thrive and enhance Spiritual Formation and Youth discipleship, specifically with youth in mind, and find ways to do so that enhance the intergenerational dynamic of the overall congregation.
    • Organize and conduct regular opportunities for students to engage in service to others in the congregation and community.
    • Proactively communicate with parents, students, and congregation including weekly bulletin updates and monthly reports to Session.
    • Work closely with other Pastoral staff to address concerns and needs of youth in their family setting and provide pastoral care of whole families. Provide appropriate counsel for parents, and where needed, recommend appropriate help and assistance. Provide comfort to students and families in times of sickness, grief, and other life changing events.
    • Establish a contact process with a goal of monthly interaction with each student and/or each family that will enhance and encourage connections within the family of believers to enable spiritual growth.
    • Develop and oversee a volunteer youth staff team to support the various facets of youth ministry, ensuring a collaborative and nurturing environment for our students. This includes recruitment, training, and coordination of volunteers, fostering a community of shared responsibility and passion for youth spiritual growth and engagement.
    • Ensure that volunteers are in regular contact with youth and families, participate in and/or lead programming and other events, to create and nurture important relationships with students.
    • Verify volunteers have proper NPC child clearance.

    EVALUATION
    Meeting periodically throughout the year with the Sr. Pastor as well as the Elder for Youth Ministry to review his or her work performance and an annual written appraisal of this review will be submitted to the Personnel Committee of Session and filed in the employee’s personnel file.

    QUALIFICATIONS
    Candidates should exhibit the following personal characteristics:
    • A confessed commitment to the Christian life and Church.
    • A personal acknowledgement of and commitment to the NPC “Core Values” and ECO Essential Tenets.
    • The ability to work collegially with church leaders, staff, volunteers, and members.
    • A detail oriented and conscientious work ethic.
    • Good management skills with proven team building and recruitment abilities.
    • Demonstrate deep knowledge of Scriptures and be able to effectively teach and lead youth.
    • Counseling and interpersonal skills are essential.

    The candidate ideally will have:
    • Related Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
    • 5 or more years’ experience working in a church setting.
    • 5 or more years’ experience working with youth.
    • 5 or more years’ experience with volunteer ministry, preferably in a church setting.
    Ability to obtain and maintain satisfactory Pennsylvania and Federal child abuse clearances in alignment with NPC Children’s Advocacy policy.

    WORK SCHEDULE
    The Director of Youth Ministry’s work will require an average of 40 hours per week, primarily at the church however some work may be done from home and some time will involve home or school campus visits.
