    Job Description

    PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS

    The Children’s Ministry Director/Pastor at Crossroads Baptist Church will provide direction and supervision to all of the church’s ministries (except the school) related to boys and girls from birth through 5th grade. The Director/Pastor will also provide direction and supervision to other ministries, programs, events, and activities related to the reaching of children outside of our church and the building of strong families in our church and community.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES IN CHILDREN’S MINISTRIES

    • Oversee the Children’s Connect Groups ministry.
    • Enlist teachers and workers for all areas of the Children’s Connect Groups and other areas of Children’s Ministries.
    • Oversee all regular organizations and ministries for children, including such programs as Team Kid, missions education, and Vacation Bible School.
    • Provide ongoing training and equipping for teachers and workers in the various areas of Children’s Ministries.
    • Oversee the ordering of literature and other resources needed for Children’s Ministries.
    • Oversee and direct special programs, activities, and events related to Children’s Ministries.
    • Plan and oversee various ministries, programs, events, and activities that would enhance relationships between parents and children, including equipping opportunities for parents and fellowship opportunities for entire families.
    • Plan and coordinate a yearly calendar of activities and events specifically designed for children and their families.
    • Prepare and submit an annual Children’s Ministry budget and oversee expenditures from that approved budget during the year.
    • Purchase items and properly account for expenses related to Children’s Ministry.
    • Coordinate with the Director of Facilities & Food Services to ensure spaces are set up for children’s ministry activities.
    • Supervise the maintenance of all materials, equipment, and other items related to Children’s Ministries.
    • Coordinate with the principal of Crossroads Baptist School to connect students and families to the other ministries of Crossroads Baptist Church.

    GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Assist the pastors in reaching out to the community and in meeting the needs of the church family, especially those related to children and their families.
    2. Attend staff meetings and provide essential input on how the church can fulfill its vision including evaluating the church’s children’s programs and events, calendar planning, and coordinating the allocation of resources.
    3. Perform other acts of ministry leadership as directed by the Senior Pastor, Executive Pastor, and the NextGen Pastor.
    4. Comply with Crossroads’ Personnel Manual and ensure the compliance of employees on their team.
    5. Delegate enough responsibilities on Sunday morning to attend a worship service each week.

    ACCOUNTABILITY

    The Children’s Ministry Director/Pastor will report to the NextGen Pastor and serve under his direction, being accountable first to him, then to the Executive Pastor, then to the Senior Pastor, then to the Personnel Oversight Team, and then to the congregation.

    2. Has a personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
    3. Prioritizes own spiritual growth through prayer, fasting, stewardship, and other disciplines as outlined in Scripture.
    4. Demonstrates the qualities of integrity, humility, responsibility, and servanthood.
    5. Possesses strong relational skills and a love for people inside and outside the church.
    6. Is a disciple-maker, who creates and grows discipleship through leadership and communication; practices personal evangelism.
    7. Has a proven heart and track record for supporting, promoting, and engaging in Gospel missions.
    8. Collaborates well with others and is teachable.
    9. Possesses excellent communication skills in writing and speaking.
    10. Fully aligned with and supportive of the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 and Crossroads’ Bylaws.
    11. Provides a demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning and personal development.
    12. Possesses an undergraduate degree (preferred).
    13. An ordained, male candidate will take on the title of Children’s Pastor; a female candidate or a non-ordained male candidate will have the title of Children’s Ministry Director. Directors do not provide them same level of clergy functions as pastors (e.g. weddings, funerals, preaching, and counseling).

    TIME REQUIREMENT

    The Children’s Ministry Director/Pastor position is full-time, salaried, and not eligible for over-time if the workweek exceeds 40 hours (Sun-Sat). Work on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings is expected. Other irregular hours may be needed to fulfill the role.
