Job Description
Redeemer seeks an Assistant Pastor who loves God and people. He must be a committed Christian
with a life marked by worship, humility, prayer, faith, and repentance. He should have a distinct sense
of calling to the ministry, particularly to preach and teach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to disciple
people. He should long to see the Lord bring people to faith, and to sanctify the saints, through the
ordinary means of grace. He should be very relational, and comfortable working with the senior pastor, elders, deacons, and other leaders in an environment where he can gain valuable experience and grow as a shepherd of God’s flock. Some prior ministry experience is preferred, and he needs to be ordained or ordainable in the PCA.
Young Adults (30-50% of his work)
• Minister to our 18-25+ year old men and women and shepherd them
• Create a plan and structure for ministry to John Brown University
• Disciple students of all universities and colleges attending Redeemer
• Disciple young professionals
• Teach bible studies and lead small groups
• Plan and participate in social events, retreats, and conferences
• Assist in Christian Education classes for this age group when needed
• Engage in premarital counseling
Youth and Families (10-20% of his work)
• Minister to our youth (7t h-12t h grades)
• Create a plan and structure for ministry to students
• Teach the youth group
• Recruit and equip our team of volunteers
• Plan and chaperone social events, retreats, and conferences
• Assist in Christian Education classes for this age group when needed
• Know, encourage, pray with and equip parents
Help the Senior Pastor and Elders (25-50% of his work)
• Assist in worship on rotation with the elders
• Preach a few times a year in the morning service
• Share the preaching with our senior pastor in the evening service
• Strategize ministry together as partners
• Employ a simple means of grace approach to discipling believers
• Meet with church members and attenders for fellowship, encouragement, and discipleship
• Practice hospitality regularly in your home
• Pray with and for our people
• Other responsibilities as assigned in partnership with the session
Ecclesiastical (5-10% of his work)
• Move toward Associate Pastor within a year
• Regularly participate in Session meetings and discussions
• Regularly participate in presbytery including stated meetings and serving on committees
• Regularly participate in General Assembly
Reporting
• The Assistant Pastor will directly report to the Senior Pastor and the Session
• The Assistant Pastor will meet weekly with the Senior Pastor for discussion, mutual encouragement, planning and prayer
• The Assistant will report to the Session during stated session meetings
