    Job Description

    The Position
    The Director of Music & Arts (“Director”) reports to and works closely with the Rector to communicate, implement, and embody the vision and mission of Good Shepherd, especially through overseeing the music and sung worship of our parish, mentoring our artists, and developing teams of singers, musicians, and artists. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    • Spending time in prayer and caring for one’s spiritual health and formation,
    • Ensuring the sung worship and music at our services (e.g., Sundays, feast days) is led with excellence and sensitivity to the leading of the Holy Spirit and the parish community,
    • Leading worship 1-2 Sundays per month (2x per month likely required at the beginning),
    • Recruiting, equipping, and empowering others to step into their musical and artistic giftings through mentorship and pastoral care,
    • Developing teams through training, rehearsals, and community building to better lead our parish in music and sung worship,
    • Coordinating the selection of songs and music to align with the season and tenor,
    • Nurturing congregational singing in a spirit of hospitality by teaching and guiding the parish, especially when introducing new songs,
    • Foster creativity by cultivating a greater appreciation of the arts and beauty within the parish,
    • Collaborating with other staff and contributing to the ongoing strategic planning, vision and mission of the parish, especially as it relates to worship and music,
    • Overseeing the administrative functions related to the above responsibilities (e.g., scheduling, preparing charts and lyrics, general communications),

    The position is 12-15 hours/week with a monthly comp of $1,200-$2,000 (based on experience).
    The Candidate
    The candidate must embody a deep love for Jesus and his mission, and be trustworthy, dependable, a self-starter, and a team-builder. A proven track record of leading sung worship and music and cultivating creativity is a must for this role.  Other qualifications include:
    • Confident, yet humble, and hospitable leader of leaders
    • Emotional intelligence and spiritual maturity
    • Clear communicator
    • Works and collaborates well with a team.
    • Solid knowledge of liturgical music, hymnody, and worship traditions.
    • Experience with Planning Center Online.
    • Aligned with the vision and mission of Good Shepherd
